Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon/Latter-Day Saints religious establishment, states that he had a vision at the age of 14. Two personages, surrounded by bright light, appeared to him and told him that all religious denominations were believing in incorrect doctrines. Furthermore, these two angels said that no religion was acknowledged by God.
But what does Joseph do next? He starts his own religion. Joseph claimed that he had another angelic visitation, where he was giving these gold plates with Egyptian characters and only he was able to read it through the power of God. What are a few things Mormons believe God communicated? Polygamy is okay and the more children a man has, the higher of a position he holds in heaven. Also, that God no longer looks favorably at the Native Indian culture. Instead, Joseph Smith and his followers are looked at favorably now.
Some scholars actually conclude that the Native Americans are one of the Lost Tribes of Israel and disagree with the mormon viewpoint.
What do you think? Do you think Joseph Smith misinterpreted his vision?
