Can you qualify to buy the house? Good credit, good job history, funds to close, good credit score at least 20% down?

Try Har.com
Craigslist.com
For sale by owner.com They might have listing with seller financing.

Best bet is to find yourself a good realtor.  I recommend Jeff Denning with REMAX here in Kingwood.

He is honest and a good realtor to work with.

Let him pull up the homes that are out there, and then go see them.  I mean you can pull up some stuff on Zillow and Har, to get a feel for things, but you will really need a realtor to go in and look at the homes that are out there.

Welcome to Kingwood.

Yes u need a realtor for sure..... I'm selling mine but its a little more then your price but you can look at it . It's in kings river and not a older home. But some people like older homes. But kings river is a great area. Check it out and see if you like it. Hope you find a great home.

Jeff Denning was our realtor. He's great, and really  knows the area well.

We have good credit with a down payment. We have worked with realtors and they show you 1 or 2 houses and expect you to make an offer. We have been preapproved for much more, and looked and many houses. We have seen many houses that were 20-30 years old and have never had any updates.

@saltwaterfisherman: I'd be happy to help you out. I'm a licensed Realtor, and I would be willing to work for 1.5%. I'm also a regular on Kingwood.com. Give me a call if I can be of assistance. I use a small and local broker here JN&B Realty: you can reach me on my cell at any time: 281.901.0011. I know the area quite well, I grew up here and lived here my whole life. I also went through the public school system here.

Never had a realtor show me only a couple of houses.  I looked at over 20 before we bought our house.  And actually this was the 3rd house we put a contract on.

Any good realtor will show you a lot of houses, maybe not as many as we saw, but we really looked at Forest Cove, until we realized it was just too expensive to buy a house then tear it down to get one that was livable.

Then we wanted a move in ready, and the size we wanted just lead us to our current home.

But any good decent realtor is not going to expect you to put in any offer if you don't like what you are seeing.

Picky does not even begin to describe me.  And my realtor was unreal good.  He even put up with me having to look then having to bring my dh back to look at certain ones.  My kids were very small and were all over the place as well.  I really can't say enough good about anyone that had to tolerate me.  lol

Plenty of liveable homes in Forest Cove that dont need to be torn down.  My friend just bought one and put in a pool.  Many of the homes were built at the same time the more established neighborhoods in Kingwood were built.  We all could use upgrades.  Nice thing about forest cove is several folks put in water wells before Houston took over.

@saltwaterfisherman The reason they are only showing you a couple of houses is probably because there are not alot of 4 bedrooms homes, with pools under $200k in Kingwood on the market. I just checked Har.com and there are 8 homes that meet that criteria.

Also, I think that some of the realtors are just trying to turn you for the quick commission check. After  a while some of them might lose money on you. You can try Susan Baker over at REmax off of Kingwood Drive., she is really, good and patient and treats all buyers with respect regardlesss of price range.
