Atascazoo is probably open now.....they would probably be cheaper than the Emergency Vet by Deerbrook.....The emergency vet by Deerbrook exam fee is automatically $85.00, then they will go from there depending on what is needed.  They are really good though.  They also offer Care Credit - if you qualify...AND, if you don't, they will allow you to pay it out over 2 months if you can pay a certain amount of it down.  Emoticon 4951

I forgot I even asked...lol we did end up at
Atascazoo..the outcome wasnt good..my 13 yr old ***** has a mammary tumor....given her age we are probably not going to treat. Vet felt she was alert enough with just a bit of arthritis stiffness that it wouldn't be inhumane to bring her home for a while and prepare but not treating her was probably a wise decision given her age. I agree.  4951

Burnsway. make an appt with Veterans Memorial Animal Hospital, Dr. Knapp.  She does holistic treatment, she is very reasonable.  There are things you can give her to slow the progression.  Is surgery an option for her?  My cat had surgery when he was 19 and did fine.Call Dr. Knapp 281-440-4441 4951

@wallacepups: We are talking about it but a 13 yr old rottweiler is pushing it and the vet felt it was an option but it would be hard on her. We all know that is way past her life span and she has slowed way down this year and arthritis is kicking in also. I will be looking into holistic measures maybe but I will not put her through too much just to keep her living for my emotions. Right now she is ok and doesn't seem in a lot of pain so we will just take it daily.BTW I keep saying 13...she isn't quite there yet....almost.

You are ahead of the game if you get a another dog near the end of an older one.The older one sort of passes down knowledge to the younger one.You don't notice it really, but it amazes me how they do it.just a thought. 4951

@FoFa: Thats why we I said ok with the puppy few months back but maybe you missed that disaster..it was a litter dumped on my parents so we took one in and had it evaluated and first set of shots done and all seemed good to go..was dead to parvo next day. My reasoning for getting a pup(well other than PUPPY BREATH..LOL) after 11 years was just for what you posted.Cant have a pup for a few more months now because of parvo in the house, and even if I could I don't want one jumping all over my about to die sick dog. By a little time we are looking at maybe a week as she is showing signs of kidney failure and the tumor is growing fast. We got meds to help with all that but We already got the cremation plans and stuff. Mainly just brought her home to say good bye....well unless a miracle kicks in....:-/Im at terms with it...the pros were way higher than the cons with this dog and 12 years is way above average on a Rottweiler.

@Burnsway
I'm sorry to hear that your dog won't be with you much longer.  Like Fallon, I think I will need therapy when the time comes for mine to go.  My oldest is 6.5 - time flies!

A lady at Movie Tavern told me that she works at WalMart (by Sam's on 1960) and that a rottie mix stray puppy has been following the security cart person for a few days.  It's skittish and won't let anyone actually catch her (him?) including animal control.  They are feeding it and leaving water out for her.  From what they can see, she might have a wound on her neck and paw.  Hopefully there is a happy ending for this dog.   Anyway, your rottie made me think of this baby.  4951

Im only calm because I have prepared myself.....Plus I have to be for the rest of the family...trust me I hurt. But I also have worked with and owned many dogs and had to say bye often, and soon you do realize that its something you will have to face when getting a pup or dog....they seldom if ever out live their owners. 4951

Burnsway, Dr. Knapp has a supplement she can put ur dog on to help his immune system. It's not expensive, worth trying.

Also Fallon, my lab is 14 1/2 years old, she is a little arthritic but going strong. She gets an Omega 3 fish oil & a glucosamine/chrondroitin pill daily plus ground milk thistle. I give her 1/2 frozen raw patty everyday and she eats Acana & Taste of the Wild......I rotate between the fish & lamb, I like these because protein content is lower.

Her brother lived to be 15. 4951

I'm sorry Burnsway.  I had a Golden that died from bladder cancer at the age of 9.  He lived 5 months after he was diagnosed, I finally had to put him to sleep because he was in such pain and watching him like that was very very hard.  He was on meds to help with the pain, which they did help for the first several months, but they were kinda pricey since I had to get them from the blending pharmacist next to Italanio's. 4951

My papillon is 12 & I tear up just thinking about not having her with me. I swear if I could afford it I'd have her cloned! She's brought so much love to me. 4951

I have 3 poodles & have had 2 of them for over 10 years & the other one for 5 years , don't know what I would do if any of them passed away . It would leave me with a huge hole in my heart for sure. I would probabley have to be locked up somewhere . @ Burnsway ...my heart goes out to you , it's always hard to say good-bye to someone you love & has been a part of your life.....God Bless & prayers for your entire family . 4951
