Sled doggy! (This is at Iditaride sled dog tours in Seward area. The dogs are 'real' sled racing dogs but entertain humans when they aren't running...and they love it They are owned by champion dog racer Mitch Seavey. His sons have also runt the Iditarod.)
Dogs on the run. The dog in the foreground on the left is grabbing a bite of snow!
This doggy is modeling Iditarod dog accesories (including a crotch warmer )
Modeling made him tired
Seen from a boat tour that goes out from Seward. Unfortunately my mom and I got seasick shortly after. A very lousy three hours...the first two were good.
Those sled dogs look way smaller than what I had them being in my mind.
That's what our guide confirmed. most people think of enormously fluffy Husky/Malamute type, but these dogs are bred for stamina. They are no particular breed which prevents inbreeding. But they are so awesome and fast!
Awesome, looks so pretty there!
The dogs are Alaskan Huskies, not a recognized breed, just a mix of what creates the best dogs for pulling sleds, but they do keep track of pedigrees and "bloodlines" of the dogs and inbreeding(called line breeding) can have its advantages and breeders who know what they're doing can produce great progeny through line breeding.
Purebred Siberian huskies pulling sleds is a Hollywood thing.
