The first batch::Loading Image...Sled doggy! (This is at Iditaride sled dog tours in Seward area. The dogs are 'real' sled racing dogs but entertain humans when they aren't running...and they love it They are owned by champion dog racer Mitch Seavey. THose are amazing photos!So glad you had a safe tripEmoticon  I am green with envy.Those sled dogs look way smaller than what I had them being in my mind.

That's what our guide confirmed. most people think of enormously fluffy Husky/Malamute type, but these dogs are bred for stamina. They are no particular breed which prevents inbreeding. But they are so awesome and fast! 4951

The dogs are Alaskan Huskies, not a recognized breed, just a mix of what creates the best dogs for pulling sleds, but they do keep track of pedigrees and "bloodlines" of the dogs and inbreeding(called line breeding) can have its advantages and breeders who know what they're doing can produce great progeny through line breeding.
 
Purebred Siberian huskies pulling sleds is a Hollywood thing. 4951

There was one Siberian husky and a Malamute (one of them is the big fluffy one). I think they were more like pets there. 4951
