Wow, if I had an emergency like that, I would never drive that far to the vet.  I would go to the first vet I could get to.

Yes,but the dog was a foster dog. Rescue group could afford more than 200 for the surgery.

Haha pharlap, yes I am dog crazy

I dropped 120 bucks today on food and shampoo products for my dogs....I can't remember the last time I bought new clothes..

I have my choice of vets for more invasive care, but I am a loyal client of pet care express for the basics. The 9 dollar office fee saves so much. Theyve known me for so long, they know the story of how my BF and I met, lol, and I almost got a job there once. Dr. Parham taught me how to microchip, draw blood, and vaccinate. His sister Felicia is the office manager and always makes sure I'm doing ok. If anyone goes there and talks to her tell her I sent ya and you will be taken care of.

Long Drive Dog and Cat hospital is reasonable too, but on the south side of town. Lonestar vet in Atascocita is ok. I payed for the year plan there but I am not sure I will go back when the year is done. I have mixed feelings about that place.

$120 for food and shampoo- ouch! I guess with 3 dogs it adds up.

I stopped buying dog treats a couple of months back. Occasionally they get hot dogs or cheese for training. I budget for $100 for dog and cat food for a month. 2 big dogs and 2 cats. I use to spend a lot more when I bought treats but they don't serve any nutritional purpose so I stopped buying them. The only ones they really like are the chicken jerky but they are made in China and have caused problems with dogs. They don't seem to miss them. As long as they get there daily walk or walks and lots of love and there 2 cups of kibble they seem happy as can be.

The flea meds and Hartguard are really pricey and hate when I have to fork up the cash for that.

But to put it in perspective I am sure they are cheaper than kids which I will find out shortly.

You can always cook some chicken breast, chop it up and give this to your dogs as a treat.

My dogs LOVE their treats.

@xjamiex:

Thanks everyone for the info, I have heard good thing about loop 494, lets see how it goes, but it seems I should take the puppy to pet care express for the first visit, and basic care. I know the adoption oncludes vaccines and spay/neuter, so we go from there.

SO I tell the lady xjamiex sent me??

N+T, I'm trying out a raw diet for prime so that wasn't cheap, plus it was time to buy more kibble. The shampoo and conditioner was 40 bucks together, more than I spend on my hair products, lol. It's a special line from a high raved about company so I decided to give it a try.

PVS sets up at Walgreens in Kingwood every month. Shots, meds, etc-no office visit charge.
The Mobil Vet sets up at NWH Pool parking lot often.  Shots, meds, etc.-no office visit charge.
I've used both and have been very please with their services & you don't have to leave Kingwood.
