Churches do plenty of mission and charity work. I guess they're just not on Evan's schedule. And they can't be expected to do it ALL. What about the atheists. Have they solved the plight of the homeless in Houston? Have they fed all the hungry mouths in our city? Why not?? It's easy to target any particular group, and say they have not done enough. But the truth is, everyone, every group, does what they can. No ONE group can do it all.
Not every group does what they can. The KKK has not done what it can, and what it does do is open to criticism. Atheists have not fed all of the mouths, we also do not accept money for helicopter egg-drops. Hypothetically, if we did though I'd join hands with my theist brothers in mocking the hell out of such irrational godless stupidity no matter how illusory and non-existent it currently is.
But, alas you're missing the mark. This isn't to say Christians don't do good stuff. It's to say sometimes megachurches do *really* stupid stuff when they could be doing good stuff.. Perhaps phrased like that you'll agree the criticism is fair even if you reject it for personal reasons.

no, you missed the point - did you donate to these churches, then you have no say in in what they do with their money,,..
really?!?!?!? only 212,000 dollars, I thought you guys were the majority....that is just a drop in the bucket...y'all can do better...why haven't you given a million or more? wait a minute....212,000 would go a long way in feeding the hungry right here in houston....why did you give it to them? dang feed the hungry here before you go fixing people elsewhere....

I totally agree with Evan. Mega churches today do very stupid stuff, like these helicopter egg hunts.
I'm not home right now. But when I get home later I'm going to pull out an interesting exert from one of Joel Osteen's earlier books.

What do you mean Atheists are in the majority? We're certainly not... This was a fundraiser by one website. And, again for those reasons enumerated above I don't have to make the money or donate the money to criticize others if they waste money.

What if the church brings in more money, even after the expense of the helicopter than normal due to higher turnout. Would it then be OK because they will have more money to use for charities? Its a business decision. If there was no financial benefit, it wouldn't be done.

evan....do you know how these churches are receiving the helos?
Go where the evidence takes you, and if you don't yet know the answer just humbly admit that you don't yet know the answer.
sound familiar?

Winning is not won. Call me again in 100 years.
And calling my criticism hollow may be valid if your criteria for non-hollow is personally "vested." Of course I'd disagree but at least you're stating an intelligible opinion.
