IMO there is no fun in driving a sports or high performance car with an automatic transmission. You've never really driven a pickup unless you've driven or owned an old Chevy, Ford, Dodge or old International with a loose shifter on the floor. What's this world coming to? LOLhttp://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/enthusiasts/the-slow-death-of-the-manual-transmission/ar-AAlad6S?li=BBisPVf&ocid=spartandhp 4951

@uneasyrider: Agreed!  My 2012 mustang is a six speed.  Would not have it any other way, even in traffic. Drove an old Dodge truck with three on the tree for work back in the day.  Might have preferred that one to be an automatic!

@buffaloglenn: Being theft deterrent is just an added bonus.

You all longing for the days of crank windows, too?  My first four cars were stick, I am happy to no longer have to inch along in traffic feathering a clutch.  Time marches on. There are better ways of doing most things these day and this is definitely one of them.      4951

@BooBear: I taught both sons to drive using a standard transmission. My daughter on the other hand will most likely never own one . I just want the option to be available on sports cars and trucks if nothing else.

Never owned an automatic as my personal car. I loved my manual RX8 so much I put a new engine in it when it died. The rpms go up to 9.5 on the rotary engine. It's the funnest car I have ever driven and I have driven a lot. 4951

I had a friend with an old pickup in his pasture that had a 4 on the floor shifter.  Long before i could take Drivers Ed and get a learners permit, I learned not only how to drive with that truck, but how to control sliding and braking on wet, muddy ground.   We could also do lots of donuts!  The first time my father let me drive his pickup with 3 on the column, he was very impressed with my shifting, steering, and braking. In 12th grade, my motorcycle accident tore up my left leg and I couldn't drive a stick for several years. My wife had never driven a manual transmission, so when I bought my first truck, I got an auto trans.   It was easier than a divorce! 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I know the feeling. I had to buy a SS 396 with an automatic for the same reason. I taught her how to drive a standard on the next car which wasn't nearly as much fun as the SS 396 would have been with a stick, but by then we had a new family member so ...

But then again, my main issue when buying a vehicle is the cup holders

@Fallon: Now you know why so many of us guys like @BooBear. She knows how to drive a stick and likes it. Please don't read anything else into this statement.  LOL
