Is this indicative of his future diplomatic relations? His conversation with Taiwan's leader has shaken the diplomatic community.Apparently he is acting on his own and not listening to his advisers.Unsubstantiated rumor is that the Trump organization is looking into investments in Taiwan. He is not officially the POTUS yet and he is acting like one.Let the thunderous attack begin on Calguy. 4951

China is friends with Iran and North Korea. Think the US could tell them not to be friends? China is a bully and our country has allowed them to grow into an even bigger bully. This country has been pushed around and pooped on for the last 8 years. We've become a laughing joke around the world . That's about to change. Who is China to tell America who they can take a phone call from. Yea just try telling China who they can talk to on the phone.

Unfortunately if China decides to call it's US debt there is a good chance they could withstand the drop in the dollar better than we could. Just hope and pray they don't increase their market share in other Asian countries and demand at home. 4951

@uneasyrider:

China only holds less than 2trillion, Japan is a very close second and other countries combined hold a larger share than both China and Japan combined...the vast majority of us debt, almost 70% is held by us. ET is right, China and other countries profit more from holding our debt than they would demanding payment. China doesn't own us like its portrayed. 4951

The US is close to a self sufficient country. We produce all the food we need and could produce all the energy if we really had to. If pushed we probably could do the technology stuff also.
If China wanted to wreck the dollar so be it. Good luck selling your crap to the great unwashed that comprises most of the rest of the world. 4951

@ETThe key exception to self-sufficiency is the rare earth elements. which for now we can't do. 4951

Well. I'm betting we could if we had to. Or manage with less, life might become a bit clunkier but doable. 4951

it isn't just the financial issues. there are also ramifications with the military. you do realize he has been turning down the daily briefings about the world situation that the president and the presidentelect are supposed to get in order to understand what is going on..? 4951

So be it. I've lived my whole life listening to people professing dire consequences and we always seem to find a way. Lotta smarts in this country. 4951

@ProblemAgain: This is what millions of people voted for.  They wanted to place a person in the Oval Office who had never held any lower elected position and whom is politically unsophisticated.  They were not thinking about the potential global implications of such a move.  Most did it solely based upon their dislike for his opponent and the fact he promised to shake-up the domestic status quo.The problem with this strategy is we now have a neophyte in the most powerful position in the land, if not the world, whom will be more prone to make major gaffes on the world stage due to a lack of the type of political skills the presidency requires.  We can only hope these missteps do not lead to broader implications such as new military conflicts or lasting damage to the image of the United States for decades to come.

The world will get over it or they can **** off. We are the lead dog and they need to better understand that - the current admin doesn't understand that at all. 4951

@ET: I'm sorry, but in my opinion this sort of thinking is quite naïve and short sighted.  I hope the intervening years will prove me wrong.  Because if I'm right God help us.

I'm not a trump supporter but the man is not uneducated and ignorant of handling foreign matters. He has experience being a politician..maybe not an elected one but if anyone believes he can run a multi-billion dollar global enterprise without knowing how to conduct himself properly and having an understanding of consequences is just being willfully ignorant.
The people WITH experience and being elected to office have screwed it up. 4951
