Other games this season that have going into OT have been sudden death. Why would this game's OT be different and like an extra quarter? 4951

There have been sudden death games THIS year. So I ask again, why the difference? 4951

If the team winning cointoss/kickoff in ot scores a field goal then then it is sudden death. TD's can be exchange between both teams till the ot quarter is out. Then the game is considered a tie.  4951

Rule hasn't changed.

Team who wins the toss wins only if they score. TD. If they only score a FG, the other team has a chance to go. After that, it's sudden death 4951

@donnatella: No there hasn't. And there hasn't been sudden death OT in the NFL for a few years. The new system started in 2010 for the playoffs and in 2012 for all games.

@chilladahun:

It is sudden death after the first team that receives ends their first possession. The game would have ended last night had either of the knickers score the FG attempts at the end. 4951

@notfromhere: that wasn't the statement from the original post.
And that's not factually correct. If on the first possession a TD (offensively or defensively ) or a safety is scored, the game is over. If a FG is scored on the first possession, the team that didn't receive the kickoff get a chance to tie or win.
