Last year , just like the year before we bought lots of candy & handed it out , most of the kids were teenagers carrying huge pillow cases . We have spoken with many of our friends that said they are tired of older kids 12 & older going door to door for hand-outs . So this year we are getting together  & going out to dinner & a movie instead of handing out candy . It will be our 1st year of not decorating & handing out candy . Is there anyone else that has had this problem with older kids trick & treating on Halloween ? 4951

We give candy to anyone who comes by. I remember being that 14 year old kid trick or treating with my 4 year old sister. Then I'd take her back home and head to the subdivision far away that gave out the good stuff....full sized candy bars! I may have done this when I was 15 too, but by 16 I was too 'grown up'!!!

Most of the teens who stop by here are neighborhood kids and they bring their friends. It doesn't bother me at all because I figure they are staying out of trouble. 4951

12 is still kids to me. I probably trick or treated with my sister until I was 15 or 16. As long as the older ones are wearing costumes and not being jerks , I think its cool. 4951

Now there are age limits on Tricker Treaters? Um - Let's kill the tradition of Halloween.  I remember as a kid how much fun it was and no one gave a rat's butt how old kids were. Saying 12 yrs old and older are looking for hand-outs is really not nice at all.  I would hope 12, 13, 14 year olds  still are enjoying themselves as kids, because in all honesty they are still kids.Hope you and your old friends enjoy your dinner & movie........... 4951

@thegoodwife: I want to know why people of this age are even allowed to live among us? Let alone wandering the streets asking for candy!

As long as they wear a legitimate costume...
I think it would be fun to see elderly dressing up for Halloween.
I keep dog treats handy in case there are pets visiting door to door too. 4951

I give candy to who ever comes to my door. Who cares how old they are. It's halloween. I think that is dumb to not give certain kids candy. That's mean. 4951

It's sad how when some people get old they turn into mean nasty people. I have been in the store so many times waiting in line for 15 minutes cause some older person is writing a check to pay and they act so nasty towards the cashier. I tell the poor cashier not to take it personal not all old people are nasty jerks. It really pisses me off. 4951

@2danes: First: But I meant it personally. It doesn't count if they don't cry. Second: I was mean & nasty when I was younger too.

@2danes:

Wait, who's acting nasty, the old person or the 10 people stuck behind them waiting for the check to be written?
And who the heck uses a check at the grocery store anymore? This is not the 80s. And if you are writing one can you be ready when it comes time to pay....like at least have it partially filled out. And update your damn register when you clear the line!!

There's your old grouchy! 4951

I see old people in the store write checks all the time and they never ever have the check filled out before hand. I think its mean to not give all kids candy. So im assuming it's a older person that said they won't give kids 12 or older candy. 4951
