Help us bring home Daria this Christmas. Daria is a sweet girl from Poland, who is in the 10th grade and has been in an orphanage her whole life, and has never been adopted or hosted to a family. At our Church, Humble Area's First Baptist Church, they give families an opportunity to adopt or host a child from overseas. Daria's picture caught my eyes, and she is the oldest of many children who are in need of love. One thing on her list is to visit Texas. She has never been to the USA and she also wants to learn English. Her dream is to own shoe boutique. God put it in our hearts to bring her home to us, to share the love of Jesus with her and the love of a family.

I think it is a great thing. Just wondering how God has put it into your heart to do it but not give you the means to accomplish it without asking for money from strangers. You may be confusing what you want to do with what you think you are being called to do. 4951

@BooBear:
Spot on... If God has put this on the heart as something to do he will provide the means without having to "beg" for money to accomplish the task... 4951

I hate to be a naysayer, but I've never quite understood the purpose of bringing an orphan from another country into your home unless the goal is adoption. I totally understand wanting to bring joy to children by providing them with a wonderful experience, but to me there is a big downside to this plan. The downside is that perhaps the child had no idea what they were missing.....or how great our country is vs theirs etc. Once they go back to the orphanage they will have the full realization of what their life is really like, and then what?I appreciate anyone that cares for the less fortunate, but please keep the cons in perspective when embarking on this type of journey. 4951

God has given us many signs these past few months. You never know, we might even adopt.

@Ashley28:
Not to be a Debbie downer but if you can't afford to bring a child over for just a visit without help of others, how would you afford a $30k plus adoption?? How about the children in Haiti that have been orphaned? Not called to help them survive? It's more important to give a grown child a Christmas visit than to help a child that has lost everything? That makes no sense to me.

Adoption is a great thing but has the last orphan in this country been adopted?  If not, I'd start local. Any reason the Poles can't adopt their own? 4951

I can see the point of those that raised another side.  I think adoption is a wonderful thing but I think it has to be done with eyes wide open for both sides because sometimes the reality is that can be a very hard emotional journey for a child that has known nothing but an institutional setting.   I also think that sometimes as Americans we think that our lifestyle with our relative wealth, fast paced culture and religious values are the best ideals for the rest of the world to strive for. I think sometimes that is misguided and fueled by our own pride in what we have achieved with disregard for the fact that a child can thrive in a simpler, and yes, even poorer life in their own culture. I can see bringing a child here for the purpose of providing a permanent home and family as long as it is done with realistic expectations and the needed psychological and medical resources are available for the entire family. I also see a good case for exploring adoption and foster care in their home country with perhaps some financial support from those willing to make it happen.  I do question if bringing a teenager to this country and showering her with attention and showing her the riches of our country for a short time and then sending her back to her life in an orphanage would be in her best interest.  Are you talking about a visit or adoption in this situation? 4951

We are also doing a fill the boot through Atascocita Fire Department. Which is a huge blessing. He has also blessed me with a job working at Humble Area's First Baptist Church..everything is falling into place for me and my family, and I can see God working in my life and He has put it in my heart to help this child. Out of all the children I kept staring at her picture and then I noticed that she was the only one who wished to come to Texas. Then a lady came up to me and told me that she just adopted a child who is friends with Daria, and she didn't even know I had been staring at her picture from far off. My husband and I got in the truck after church and we both wondered if God wants us to do this, and on a Christian radio station a man came on and started talking about adoption. We are going to try our hardest to make this happen. 4951

@ET: I agree. "Local" not so dramatic but I believe in taking care of business in your own country first.

Well I do hope that when you do Fill the Boot that you make clear that you are raising money for this project and not actually helping firefighters/families that have been injurered or killed in the line of duty. Firefighter charities are a cause near and dear to my heart- dh was one and my nephew currently works in this field- it would tick the heck out of me to find out my $$ didn't not got to the fallen brethren 4951

I'm going to get blasted for this but what the hey...life's no fun being a sheep.  Okay, here goes. Lady, listen well.... GOD DID NOT SPEAK TO YOU!!  I know because HE rolled his eyes and denied it when I read your post to HIM.   God did say, GET A REAL JOB AND THOUEST SHALL BE REWARDED!!!"  just like that, the yelling and everything.... and then he said,  "hit the post button...hit it....HIT IT!!"but....my vision is going with age...it could have been the devil...   4951

Fundraising aside, who wants to visit Texas from overseas without a solid reason? Maybe NY or Hollywood somewhere a little more touristy or a better known specific location, but to travel to general Texas for fun? I feel like there's more to this story... Daria might have connections here and has other plans. 4951
