Ok, we have been in the neighborhood since last December.  Other than the lack of Comcast/Xfininty (yes they have some of the worse customer service, and are far from perfect) we love it in Kingwood.  I do have a question.  What are the best deals on cable/internet?  We have had suddenlink since we moved to the area, but we're paying more for only really basic cable, phone we don't use, and unlimited internet than we did for every channel with comcast/xfinity.  (HBO, Starz Cinexmax, etc).  When I talked to the last salesman he told me I was full of crap basically.  Even though I told him I could send him a copy of my bill..I have tried to see if they would work with me on my pricing and have gotten no where.  Any chance that the monopoly that Suddenlink has on the area will be over soon?  We have a big busy househould with multiple devices and we must have fast speed reliable internet.  Thank you for your help or suggestions!

@Tricia16:
Good luck.
I've had problems with them for about 3 years.

Just the other day I called to change the phone number that was assigned to me because I was getting lots of calls (not for me) and they ended up messing with my account
my bill went from $55 a month for Internet & phone to $320 a month same services.

Apparently the guy on the phone was trying to get a sales bonus I guess.

My phone went without dial tone for 2 weeks aND someone was suppose to call me the next day to fix it and 10 days later I had to call & see what was going on they finally sent someone and to my surprise my dial tone worked 5 mins before he got here.

I can't wait for AT&T or Comcast to come to the area.

You would think that there are enough people fed up with this issue to resolve it some how. 4951

I have had the same issues. When we lived by Lone Star Kingwood we could get Xfinity and even though it sucks it was cheaper and better than Suddenlink. We decided to just cut out cable and do internet only. Haven't really missed it. 4951

Xfinity and AT&T will not come to kingwood. They do not own the lines out here. You cannot have multiple services running across the same copper lines. 4951

@Thundercats: It's not that they "cant" it is that they won't. Cable monopoly districts are something the companies rely on because it means you have no other options. I wish the government would get off it's *** and declare the internet a basic utility and regulate it. That is the least they could do for us after they turned the lines over to these companies without forcing them to put money back into the lines which has allowed America to fall far behind the rest of the "first world" countries.

@Tricia16: No.  I have had pretty good luck with SL but others seem to have their problems.  I hear a constant moan about Comcast to the south of us so you must have been one of the lucky ones.  You can try CenturyLink Internet if you don't mind speeds slightly better (sometimes worse) than dial up.

You might consider going with SL on internet and moving to satellite on all other but I doubt that will save any money.

You might not save any money going with satellite but Direct TV has been great in terms of options. However customer service after hours is lousy but so far we haven't been forced to call more than a couple of times. Word of advice, take a pass on the special packages that give discounts for a limited time only, the bill can be a shocker when the discount expires. 4951

@frebu: Haven't they tried that already? And people freaked out because they thought Obama was taking over the internet?

@Thundercats and @frebu:  As Suddenlink continues to improve its equipment and replace copper wires with fiber optic lines (very slowly), they then COULD lease their lines to other internet services.  However, since they don't really want any competition, they just make the price of leasing so high that other companies would have to charge much more than Suddenlink.  I agree that regulating it as a basic utility would invite competitors to move into Kingwood and update/share the same optic fiber lines.During a recent review, it was determined that the United States ranked 9th in the world for internet speed (on average). For the complete article (written in 2013):http://www.xconomy.com/national/2013/07/23/were-number-9-u-s-slips-in-internet-connection-ranking/Another article says that we actually edged out Sweden and have taken 8th place.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/24/us-internet-speed_n_3645927.htmlWE ARE #8 (OR 9)!    Not much to cheer about.  We are behind Latvia and the Czech Republic!?!I personally cannot complain much about Suddenlink.  I get 200Mbps internet service and it is very consistent.

@Retired_Engineer: All of those countries are significantly smaller than the US...note that they list Hong Kong but not China overall.  I also suspect that the footprint is govt owned.  You can put down a lot of fiber if you have enough tax money.

the 8 or 9 is artificially inflated by having google fiber and other small fiber companies in certain areas that offer exceptionally high speeds,How the UK is not on that list but the US is when in the UK 17MB DSL with TalkTalk costs the equivalent of $26 per month and 38MB Fiber DSL is the equivalent of $36.The service I have with SuddenLink right now would be less than $70 equivalent in the UK, that is $45 less than here, and that is because there is actual viable competition universally available. So that 8/9 is just not accurate in the real world. 4951
