There has to be specifity as to the mental health issues, I.e. bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
@dac1842: BUT that is an extremely slippery slope. Then people selling guns would have access to everyone's ( who wants to buy a gun) medical records.
And who gets to decide??? A psychiatrist? While Bipolar and Schizophrenia do have hallmark symptoms not all of these patients will exhibit all of the symptoms. And here is a cautionary tale- and it did happen to us.
Hubs went with ds and I to the psychiatrist for an appointment. I did not care for the guy and was looking for another because this guy was nothing but a pill pusher. And while I am most definitely for medication therapy- not to the extent this guy was advocating- every kid that walked into his office acted like a zombie- including mine.
So we walk in and I introduce Hubs and he said- " well you're Bipolar too." This was 30 seconds into the visit and all my hubs said was " nice to meet you".
What was this doc basing his diagnosis on? The fact that ds was Bipolar and more than likely Hubs Mom was Bipolar( undiagnosed same symptom set as ds)- and since there COULD be a genetic link then Hubs HAD to be Bipolar. Tried to open a file and write him an RX.
This guy is board certified and practices here in Houston - do YOU want him to decide if you are mentally ill or not?????
This slope is getting really slick
