@jax:  I didn't watch either.  The debates are meaningless.  I've heard all I want to hear from both people.  But I do enjoy reading the "Lie or Not" summary in this morning paper and on the internet.  They are both practiced liars. 4951

Trump completely unprepared and easily goaded into defending his taxes and birther crud for far too long when he should have brushed it off. Missed several hanging curveballs to hammer Clinton, but though it wasn't a great performance he avoided doing himself any real harm.

Clinton is a professional politician and she performed like you would expect, did really well moving past emails when they were brought up and turning focus back on trumps negatives. Subjects which the primary debates proved he couldn't help himself but get caught up in. She also ignored his constant interruptions and didn't let them distract her, which he should have seen early on and stopped, they just made him look silly.

Trumps yuge ego is tied up in people believing he is super successful and rich, so when brought up and used negatively he won't ever let it go, costing him time and throwing him off message when he needed to turn it quickly either back to clintons endless negatives or back to issues and discarding the attack on him as absurd and meaningless.

Nobody really won, nobody really lost.

Trump really needs to get himself together and prepare for the next debate, if he wants to these debates to help him much.

"Had Jill Stein on the computer - listening to her responses to the same questions."Jill "we need UN oversight of our police" Stein?  No thanks.Trump wiped the floor with the tag team of Hillary and Lester. When Lester called Trump a racist, then asked if Trump would apologize.  Trump "I have no reason to apologize."  Trump got Hillary to call Trump a liar for repeating what Hillary had just said.Hillary bragged about her plan to raise taxes on the "rich" because "they are the only ones who made out well in this economy."Trump responded that her desire to "raise taxes" is not a good thing.Hillary "fact check" aka, "you're a liar".But she had just bragged about raising taxes/Trump had other great plays:- Mentioning she's been in high government positions for almost 30 years, yet she hasn't done any of the things she now claims she will do re: security, race relations, economy and other things.- Not attacking on Bill's affairs or Hillary's treatment of Bill's victims. He showed he isn't the out of control monster Hillary tries to portray he is.- The zinger about "it's negative experience, that's the wrong kind of experience".  The crowd went wild/Hillary said, during the debate, the people decide.  Every debate poll had Trump the winner. 4951

Most debate polls from legitimate news organizations declared Hillary the winner.  The bottom line is Trump was ill prepared.  Even some staunch Republicans thought he did a less than stellar job.  Rudy Giuliani has gone so far as to say he shouldn't participate in another one.  But in true Trump fashion he ignored his handlers and refused to do adequate debate prep.  He figured he could bluster his way through the event the same way he had done in the primaries, it didn't work. His greatest Achilles heel in my opinion is not releasing his tax returns.  He said he would release them if Hillary released some deleted emails.  The problem with this attempted equivalence is he is running for president SOLELY on his stated business acumen as he has never held a political office.  So it would seem to me the examination of his tax documents is a vital piece of the puzzle regarding his financial stability as well as perhaps revealing just who his business partners are.At the end of the day the debates aren't going to change most people mind.  It really comes down to despite everything else, who do you trust to have access to the nuclear codes?  Because contrary to popular belief, the president does not go through Congress first before authorizing the launch of our nuclear forces.  That power is only vested in the hands of the commander in chief.  Scary thought isn't it?https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/daily-202/2016/09/27/daily-202-why-even-republicans-think-clinton-won-the-first-debate/57e9b033e9b69b3019a1e037/?tid=pm_politics_pop_b  4951

Giuliani, btw, never ever said he should not participate in another debate. And you know this. He said unless they can get moderators that are not partisan hacks then he should consider not doing another debate. He said it wasn't fair for Trump to have a moderator that is lying on top of Hillary. And no one around to fact check the moderator. And he was right. Lester Holt was wrong on more than one thing. It was gross negligence on his part as a moderator.

@Fallon: Giuliani was trying to provide Trump political cover.  In many circles Giuliani is considered something of a wackado himself.  But he's smart enough to know when someone blew it.  And Giuliani knows Trump blew an opportunity.  BTW I think it's much too simplistic to blame a moderator for the outcome of a debate.  Even the worst moderator can be overcome by intelligent thoughtful responses by a candidate that has adequately prepared themselves.
