I promise I'm not trying to cause trouble or stir up gossip......  :-)But my KHS student came home today telling stories about students being arrested and/or detained for alcohol and/or drugs at the "80's Dance" last Saturday night.  (My student did not attend.)Can anybody verify this info?  (Maybe it's teenager gossip gone wild?!) 4951

If it's true, I'm wondering what steps parents will take to avoid a similar situation. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:

I hear so much stuff about how parents rent beach houses buy the kids alcohol for all the proms, homecoming & graduation. They all tell me oh that's how it works now I would rather them do it & me know about it. I'm like oh Hell NO. I'm not buying any alcohol for any under age teens or renting a beach house so any one can get pregnant. Not happening on that note I will make damn sure my kids know about all the consequences bc I have been there & we talk very openly in our house 4951

There seem to be drinking/drug stories at KHS dances every year. It's good that they are caught/arrested. School personnel are looking for the kids who are doing it. My kids have always been safe at the KHS dances. 4951

I heard from a couple of neighbor kids that 20 were arrested and several (who were over 18) are still in jail. I didn't get details.

If there were 20 arrests, you might be hearing about it from someone other than the neighbor kids.  4951

When my daughter went to KHS a few years ago she said they stopped putting table clothes over the big tables because people would go under the table to have sex. 4951

I'm unaware of arrests, but I know of drinking (not drugs), and punishments have already been handed down.

I'm not immune to the fact that this crap happens - it happened 20 yrs ago. However, if there were arrests, I would hope it's warranted and that it is tougher than the punishments given to those not arrested. 4951

Good lord high school kids will sneak alcohol.. Remember the days of spiked punch???  It happens everywhere and in every generation.  I don't condone it and if you get caught you pay the price.. But it is hardly earth shattering.... 4951

And parents not being parents.  SSDD, yet we blame others for our children's actions.  IMHO, and take it for what it's worth (not much) if they live in your home and you are held accountable for their actions, you should teach them cause and effect of their actions.  It is hard enough to learn these things as an adult on your own, we need to be taught at an early age.  No, it is not all the parents fault, but a good foundation goes a long way. 4951

YES.  Kids sneaking booze at a school function is nothing new.  But the police becoming involved takes it to another level.I'm not freaking out about it, but at least my son and I had a good talk about the whole topic.   4951
