That moment when you go for a late night run and noticed some punk pulled a dead armadillo carcass (that was on the road the day before) onto the dark part of the trail, and you happened to stop right there to stretch(touching the bottom of your shoe), and later on the run you happened to put your hand on or in your mouth to wipe off sweat or a spiderweb, and then got a flashlight app so that on the way back you can notice that you stopped and stretched on a dismembered armadillo carcass. 4951

Most of the paths have enough light to see..except for that one little area. Figures. ..And I like to run at night or before sunrise, since it is much cooler. 4951

By punk, I guess you mean person? Why would you think a person did itMy guess would be a scavenging animal moved it from the roadway so they could eat it without suffering the same fate. 4951

@Ashley:

I'm guessing that you're unaware that ARMADILLOES can carry the gene potential
for LEPROSY!! I didn't either. I came upon a very newly deceased, very large one in excellent condition ( well, not from his perspective!! ).

I thought my elder son would think it would be
funny if I had it stuffed, dressed in UT garb & doing other UT stuff while wearing cowboy boots & hat. He could show it to all of his NYC neighbors, friends & co workers. There are some backward people up there who still think dillos are some mythical creatures.

I called a taxidermist for a estimate & he said no way & told me about the leprosy potential!! So got the dillo out of my trunk & found it a new home. I never touched it directly & there was no blood in the car.

You should take the previous advice, DON'T RUN IN THE DARK!!!! Did you hear me?
This is TEXAS ( was gonna say for crissake, but I remember some of the past posts ) & there are animals that can run FASTER than you ever could & when they catch your skinny ***, it's a banquet & you ain't the guest, Sweetie, you're the ENTREE'!!!!!

I know for a fact that its two little punks bc I've seen them pulling roadkill onto the trails.. Then they take off on a bike. Over the years they have pulled a dead racoon and mutilated it leaving its creepy skull on the path..they pulled a dead deer from off the road onto the trail..after its been dead for a while. They love to leave one or two feet on the trail from a dead racoon I'm assuming. Every time I see an animal hit on the road I'm wondering when it will show up on the trail. It happens the most around October bc of Halloween I'm sure. 4951

LED headlamps are quite cheap, like less than $10 for one that is sufficient for suburbia nighttime running.  I never run in total darkness without one, but then I also used to run mountain trails at night so it's just habit.  I understand the desire to get out at night sometimes and, sometimes, due to life's scheduling it's the only time you have.  Wear enough to see and be seen. 4951

I knew that they carried something terrible..didn't know it was leprosy! Great I will be worried about that for a while now. ..The only animals I've seen on the trails at night are deer, rabbits, racoons, armadillos, owls..haven't seen any mountain lions yet lol. I have seen wild pigs on the trail but that was during the day..And those things are aggressive. There were 5 or 6 of them, and they ran towards me and then took off in the woods. 4951

I haven't seen the alligators but during the last severe flooding, didn't Texas Oma post a photo of a huge one somewhere near where she lives?

As ungainly as they look, they can really haul *** pretty quickly if food is involved. I'll have to check out their speed on goggle, too chicken chit to test it out IRL in a race with one of those very bad boys.

Not too terribly long ago, a bobcat was chasing Bambi right up Rustic Woods by the Park & Ride. That poor little Bambi was running so fast with the cat almost on top of her. I was in my car & thought I'd be able to distract the cat but they were long gone.

I'll come back in a few & tell you about my tiny dogs & the hawks circling above them. Those damn things are land sharks, can smell little animals so far away, not to mention their eyesight.
I would never ever leave a little animal unattended. No hawk captures, but 2 Mex girls stole my teeney Yorkie puppy & a neighbor poisoned the sweetest little Yorkie in the world!!

@Zoey:
Sounds like we need to worry more about people than animals. Animals are more well behaved than most people. But im prepared if someone tries to mess with me on the trail. Oh and not to mention I have God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ watching out for me. Im not afraid to run in the dark. I will keep my flashlight next time.
