I wonder if the kid in the far left of the picture survived.Not unlike my elementary school playground. Mostly asphalt, with 3 big trees with concrete culverts under them. There was a round monkey bars on the asphalt and a ladder shaped one on the dirt next to the sidewalk.  Lotsa stitches were made there! 4951

@FairieMae:

There was always the see-saw where your buddy jumps off on the bottom side and you break your tailbone on the ground.
Also the carousel where you hold on for dear life while somebody ramped it up to warp speed. If you slipped you were ejected onto some nice soft gravel.
Good times. 4951

@FairieMae:  Sure he did.  The school nurse (or a teacher) slapped some merthiolate on it and gave him a sucker.  That cured many aches/cuts/scratches back then!

@ET:  Yeah, that may have been that red stuff!  I just remember that almost every kid had some red stains on their skin!

@Retired_Engineer: AKA - Monkey Blood, but you knew that.  Application stung so much that you sucked it up next time you scraped anything.They both contained mercury.  Mercurochrome is a trade name for merbromin, a compound containing mercury
and bromine. Merthiolate is a trade name for thimerosal, a compound containing
mercury and sodium.
