The following is a rundown of the "Top Ten" makes of vehicles reported as stolen to the Houston Police Department during the month of August 2016. 1) Chevrolet Trucks - 143 2) Ford Trucks - 129 3) Dodge Trucks - 73 4) Honda Cars - 67 5) Chevrolet Cars - 60 6) GMC Trucks - 45 7) Toyota Cars - 44 8) Ford Cars - 39 9) Jeep Vehicles - 28 Nissan Cars - 2810) Toyota Trucks - 22 4951

Those are probably the top 10 vehicles on the road.The number one item stolen from a candy store is candy.I don't think these lists mean much. 4951

@ZMAN:  Point taken.  It does show that Chevy and Ford trucks are very popular with car thieves.

Trucks are at the top of the list because they are stolen to use as "tools" for stealing ATM's or crashing through storefronts. 4951

It looks like thieves do a little marketing research too. I think trucks are popular for a variety of reasons. They do come in handy in committing crimes like stealing ATMs and "smash and grabs". But they could also be easy to sell in other states and/or countries. You'd be surprised at the number of stolen vehicles that find their way onto used car lots. And last but not least, I'm guessing the most popular cars and trucks are hot items on the used auto parts market.   4951
