A Texas mattress shop is being ripped for a tasteless commercial featuring a “Twin Towers” sale to mark 9/11.
The 21-second spot for Miracle Mattress in San Antonio ends with two
store employees screaming as they crash into “Twin Towers” made of
mattresses.

“Oh my God!” cries out store manager Cherise Bonanno, who then looks into the camera and says, “we will never forget.” The ad has since been removed. Store owner Mike Bonanno issued an apology on Facebook on Thursday:I say this unequivocally, with sincere regret: the video is tasteless and an affront to the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11.
Furthermore, it disrespects the families who lost their loved ones and
continue to struggle with the pain of this tragedy every day of their
lives. He said the company would “determine an appropriate response to
express our regret and support for the 9/11 victims and their families.”
Both the store owner and the manager in the video share the same last name, but it’s not clear how they may be related.

The appropriate response would be to shut down, move to NYC and join the fire department. Do the laundry and wipe the floors for the rest of his life 4951

That was an unbelievably
sick idea. Seriously, what kind of mind thinks of something like
that? 4951

He got exactly the response he was looking for, people talking about his business.  But like a child, he doesn't understand that not all attention is good attention.  I doubt this will drive business to his store, regardless of the "attention".  Perhaps it is a move to push himself out of business?  I don't know.  Hard to believe people are that stupid.  As someone who lost friends as a result of that day (fire fighters who died years later from various cancers) it angers me that people can be so callous.  However, in a free country such as ours, it is their "right" to be idiots, but I don't have to like it. 4951

When I saw the story on local Fox this morning, they showed Facebook comments identifying the woman in the video as the owner's daughter....wow! 4951

@ALetterToElise: And she apologize on camera for the ad - using the word "stupid" several times. The parent company released a statement that they did not know of the ad - never approved it. As a result, 30% of all sales made at the store this weekend will be donated to the 9/11 Foundation.
I also lost a friend in the Towers. I also have family members who are first responders who were there that day. I grew up 45 minutes outside of NY - my parents were raised there. It's a sensitive topic for me. However, since moving here to TX, I have found that there is another way to think about the way some people inappropriately respond to it.1. I think that now that we are 15 years out from it... that's a whole 'nother generation. 20-something year old's were in elementary and middle school. I don't think they fully understand the impact the attacks had on our Nation.2. I think people in areas of the country that were NOT the East Coast - there's no emotional tie, so they don't realize that it IS sensitive to others. I say this because 2 years ago, my son's class made America posters for Veterans Day. The posters were to be about important symbols of our country. My son included pictures of the Tower, as well as the new One World Trade Center. As I walked around the room looking at all of the posters, there were a couple of children who included photos of the Towers burning. I was really taken aback and offended. After thinking about it more throughout the day, I realized that some people just don't know - they don't have the emotional tie. They weren't there that day - they didn't know people who were there - they didn't consider NY (or DC) a part of their lives.I don't know - just my 2 cents. I'm not vindicating the store for the ad - but I'm just taking another look as to why they did what they did. They just didn't think. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Just saw the story on Channel 2 news that Mattress Miracle is closing "indefinitely." If they are stupid, tasteless and classless enough to make a parody ad of 9/11, they deserve to go outbid business. No part of 9/11 should be part of a sales ad, ever.

I remember that day so clearly. I though we were in the midst of ww3 and my mom worked on a base that was a prime target. I couldnt get a hold of her for hours and I was worried sick. I didnt know anyone at the sites but the fear was so real that they weren't going to stop hitting prime targets.

Anyone making a buck off of that day needs to be very ashamed of themselves. 4951
