I have a huge Aloe plant and know how to use it as a healing paste, but can you cook with it straight off the plant? Any recipes if so? Does it taste good, if so? Thanks 4951

Yes you can. It may give you diarrhea though. It is in vitamins. It helps your digestion. It tastes bitter so best sliced up and put in blender mixed with a smoothie. I just looked this up. Everything on the Internet is true. I wouldn't but you can apparently. 4951

I saw Andrew Zimmern (TV show Bizarre Foods) in Mexico (I believe) and a street vendor made a drink with the "gel" from the inside of the Aloe plant, mixed with something else.  It was very slimy and even Andrew couldn't take more than a sip or two.  4951

@donnatella:

Because many of our plants and fruits have healing powers that blow OTC and prescriptions away but because FDA cant regulate or patent them they prefer to make sure anyone in society that makes these claims are either arrested, fined or painted as crazy snake oil sellers.

Research the benefits of using and ingesting Aloe.

@Burnsway: Good to know. I had no idea and saw it as only first aid and topical moisturizer.

Not sure about eating, but like was mentioned previously, you can drink it. I used to drink a bottle of aloe water a day and saw tremendous health improvements. It is an acquired taste though, and even now it's still not very high up on my out of things that taste good, but it's definitely worth it. 4951

Personally the texture grosses me out for ingestion so I choose certain youngliving oils for those same support benefits but aloe is very easy and cheap to grow so is becoming very popular for certain issues. Im not sure I would fall into the bottled craze as once good reputable companies get popular everyone else wants a piece and cut corners.

It happens with everything. YL has been around proving the benefits of oils for 25 years. People finally woke up to that truth about 10 years ago....now everyone from wal mart to health stores sell crap oils and make the same claims. Even injuring people in the process.

Coconut water comes to mind also...probably only 10 percent of marketed coconut water is real coconut water.

I see the aloe craze doing the same thing. So unless you grow it yourself or it comes from a reputable health and wellness company that has proven their purity I myself would pass the drink up.

Just my 2 cents opinion....Emoticon
