She has been telling me for the past month or 2 that she just can't hear very well, especially out of her left hear. I thought it might be just congestion at the time but yesterday it dawned on me that at age 89 she might just need to have her hearing checked out properly so I was able to get an appt for Houston ENT over at the hospital complex, my wife saw Dr. Klegg several years ago and liked him. Should be interesting to find out what is going on. 4951

Hopefully is something simple, like an ear wax build up. 4951

We are here now and they found she has a lot of wax so Dr Clausen cleaned the ear canals first. He said they were really blocked and to quit using Q-tips! They have moved since I last was in,  now up on the 4th floor of the west wing. She's having a hearing test now. 4951

Ok so she got done with the hearing test and we went back in to see the Dr. Nice young guy and new at the practice. He went over the test and said she has hearing loss typical of a person her age. He said just having the wax out should help a lot. He said she could get hearing aids and try them for a month risk free but she said no. I guess there is a stigma that comes with things like that. She didn't want the electric wheelchair at first but now loves it. So I took her home. She called me about 10 minutes ago and said she was playing solitaire on her computer (she loves the one called Tri Peaks. She said she hadn't adjusted the volume on the computer but the sound was so much louder. Glad we got that take care of! 4951

A certain Dr told my husband that he was missing certain ranges in his hearing that related to women and children's voices, due to working around engines all his life, and not a lot could be done to improve that. He could have a hearing aid if it avoided discourse in his marriage but it would be expensive and wouldn't help.  I think we need a different Dr.  4951

There is little in life that feels better than a good ear cleaning. My ENT did them for me quite willingly when I was young. I wish that were something that my gp would do.

My allergist tells me not to put in anything smaller than my elbow into my ear. He thinks he is funny but I think he is a great doctor despite his sense of humor. 4951
