I'm named after my father so I'm a Jr. His/my first name is Elmore. He went by that name but I chose to use my middle name. It was always embarrassing on the first day of school when the teacher did roll-call and called me by my first name. I hated that when I was young. He was called Elmore since he was little in south LA, so it didn't bother him. Some of our young neighbors and relatives had trouble pronouncing Uncle Elmore, so they often referred to him as "Uncle Elmo" or "Uncle Mo" or even "Uncle Lawnmower".My last name is French and is usually hard to decipher how to pronounce unless you've taken French. Now that my Dad's gone, I don't mind when I go to the doctor's office and they call for "Elmore ????". They can screw up the last name but there are not many people with Elmore as their first name, and it reminds me of my father each time.Â
