I saw this there about a month ago, but it was $5.48 lb at the time. Myself and another customer qas googling it when an Asian lasy came by and told us exactly what it was. She said its very good and juicy with a lot of texture. @Fofa, have you tried it? 4951

@bubbleyes72: Love it, it's just a ***** to clean and get the fruit out.
I even made english style jack fruit pudding (steamed pudding) from it once. And Jack Fruit compote I used in my yogurt. 4951

Yes & when you cut into it, it oozes sticky latex that will ruin your knife & is really hard to wash off your hands.

Anyone care to cut one up & pass out samples at HEB? Maybe Lou could be talked into it! 4951

Jack Fruit is actually pretty good, quite sweet but a weird texture. You want to make sure that you don't accidentally by Durian. That is similar though not as big but inside is smells as one food critic described it as as pig s--t, turpentine and onions garnished with a dirty gym socks! 4951

@FoFa: We saw that at Kroger the other day.  It does not look appetizing to me.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JackfruitIt is native to parts of South andSoutheast Asia and is believed to have originated in the southwestern rain forests of the Western Ghats in the Indian Subcontinent, in present-day Kerala, West Bengal, coastalKarnataka, and Maharashtra, but also Indonesia. [8][9][10] The jackfruit tree is well suited to tropicallowlands, and its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit,[11] reaching as much as 35 kg (80 lb) in weight, 90 cm (35 in) in length, and 50 cm (20 in) in diameter.[12] The jackfruit tree can produce about 100 to 200 fruits in a year. The jackfruit is amultiple fruit, composed of hundreds to thousands of individual flowers, and it is the fleshy petals that are eaten.[13]The jackfruit tree is a widely cultivated and popular food item throughout the tropical regions of the world. Jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh, by name Kathal (কাঁঠাল) in the Bengali language, and by the same name it is very popular in Indian State of West Bengal.[14]

The outside sure doesn't look inviting, I'll admit that. But it is very good, and different. 4951
