I managed to get a followup appointment with the neurologist my DW saw at the Kelsey Seybold Holcombe office today, Dr. Garza. She saw him about 5 weeks ago and really liked him but the medicine he prescribed has a few side effects including restless sleep which is keeping  both of us up. She was still having some issues related to the sensory stroke she had last year, all on her left side which was the side effected. Occasional tingling, a feeling that her left foot is cold or hot or itching. We especially wanted to get in to see him before the split happens in October for BCBS patients.  I'm going to go along, she hates navigating the med center, although this is closer to Holcombe and Kirby. Going to grab lunch in the Rice Village afterwards at the Istanbul Cafe, good Turkish cafe food and not too expensive. 4951

I hope that BCBS will get things worked out, that will effect a ton of folks.
@Fallon: Me too!  We have BC/BS and have always loved it.  I hope they can come to an agreement before the deadline.  @Chrisinkingwood:  I hope the Dr. will be able to get her some meds that don't have so many side affects.

Thanks, on the other hand one side effect is a decrease in appetite and my DW says she has dropped a few pound without really trying! 4951

The visit went well, we really like this doctor. He agreed that a recent increase in the dosage might be the problem so he backed off and also changed it from the extended release to a quicker release as it might lessen the restlessness at night. The med is Effexor which is an antidepressant but like many of those they also have found they help with issues involving nerves or after a stroke. 4951

I really do like Dr. Garza. My daughter has been seeing him for years and even though he will no longer be covered by our insurance, I don't imagine we will change. Just pay the price. It is not easy to find a neurologist that is easily understood and good. 4951

When Aetna and KS broke up KS offered us a 30% discount off their rates to compensate for out of network. You all might get the same. 4951
