Has anyone done a flea dip on their dog?  I purchased some Petcor spray from Bugtime over by Italiano's but it doesn't seem to be helping and she licks it like crazy when you put it on her.  She is on Trifexis that she gets every month.  We used the Bug B Gone in the backyard when they were giving that away and it was supposed to last for 6 months according to the bottle and somehow my baby still got fleas.  I have been trying to give her Benadryl also because she is miserable.She won't let us bathe her at home so I can't do the Dawn wash on her.  Just curious if anyone has done the dip and is it safe?  I am finding both good and bad reviews of having them flea dipped online.  I have been spraying some Alpine stuff I got at Bugtime and vacuuming like crazy for the last few days since we saw the first one on Tuesday along with laundry.  TIA for any help. 4951

Growing up that was the only option to get rid of fleas and those dogs all survived. 4951

@WskyTngoFxtrt:

Good with Frito scoops. Move fast as they do try to hop off. 4951

We use that stuff you squish into their fur on the back of the neck, every couple of months. Never had a problem with our two hounds and they are low riders, perfect for hitchhikers. Get it at Costco. Frontline or something similar. 4951

Best thing to do is to get the pill.  the topical stuff tends to wash off easily.  We had a huge issue with fleas for a long time.  Tried every different topical ointment.  Nothing worked, and if it did, it didnt last long.  Got the heartworm/flea pill and they were gone in days and never came back.  Had a 6 month supply, it ran out and after 18 months, still no fleas.  I believe it was called Comfortis.   4951

You can't use the advantage if your dog is on trifexis. No topicals w trifexis per my vet when I asked her.  4951

@dotti573: Are you putting anything on the carpet when you vacuum?  It could be that they are in your house and taking a ride on your pup.  I realize that on prevention, they should still be staying off your pup. We live in the woods, so fleas are an issue and I go in crazy clean mode if I see a flea.  I put the DE under the couch cushions, mattresses, etc. to help.  I also use a natural mint sprint in all the rooms-the smell goes away when dried.  There is also a lemon mixture you can make and spray on your pup before she goes into the yard-it will deter all bugs including fleas and mosquitoes. We do not have carpets but now one large rug in a room.  I put Borax down and wait a few minutes before vacuuming.  If she is crated during the day, even better-sprinkle some on the gorund before you leave and then vacuum when you get home. Oh, and I know she does not like baths, but would she take you putting a powder on her? I have the dogs not face be, put some DE in my hands and then put it on them.

The stuff I'm spraying is called Alpine. It's like a foam that you let dry then vacuum. I do the couch and carpets.

She will let us put stuff on her.

I was told that because she is on trifexis she can still get bit by a flea but they die after they bite her. She has such a horrible reaction to a bite. We also have 2 cats and neither of them have any so I tend to believe that after her they are dead. I've checked the cats up and down.

We started with comfortis when we got her 3 years ago and I think we switched because they said the trifexis was better if your dog didn't have a reaction to it. Some dogs can't handle it. It seems like now she is just itchy and we don't see any on her. This is one thing we really never dealt with in Jersey.

Does the tractor supply place in Porter or the feed store sell the DE. I think that's diamasious earth right. Sorry my spelling stinks. 4951

You can get it online for 10.99 a bag. Make sure it's food grade! @dotti573  Like any products, the fleas will eventually become immune to it...or so I've read. I would think that Tractor supply and Knox rd feed store carry it! Emoticon 4951

Trifexis is a heartworm prevention plus Comfortis.   Maybe switch to just a heartworm pill such as Heartgard or the generic version and use Frontline plus too. 4951
