Game wardens find king cobra that was on the loose near schoolsTexas game wardens have recovered a king cobra after it slithered away from a home in Needville.
The 10-foot snake disappeared on Tuesday night from its owner's home, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.
The area the snake escaped in is in a fairly rural area on Cloudt
Road near Needville High, Junior High and Middle schools, said officials
with the Needville Independent School District.

Officials said staff and faculty at the campuses knew of the issue but classes continued as normal.
Along with game wardens, deputies and other law enforcement offices searched for the snake. A single king cobra bite is enough to kill 20 people or one elephant.
They are generally shy and try to avoid humans but will become
aggressive if cornered, according to National Geographic.

The king cobra is considered the world's longest venomous snake and can grow as long as about 18 feet. 4951

That's pretty crazy - glad they found it.  You have to wonder what possesses people to own something like that.  I get the rattlesnake guys that use the snakes to produce antivenin and such, but a King Cobra?  But I also question why anyone would keep a lion or tiger for a pet too.  Sometimes we do need laws to protect people from their own stupidity, or protect the public at large from a few individual's stupidity. 4951

The cobra created a Twitter account during the snake-hunt and was apparently at the Rosenberg Waterburger getting a patty melt. 4951

@buffaloglenn: Seems it used to be that people had a tiger or lion on their property in a cage or something. Haven't heard about that in awhile.

@Chrisinkingwood: I went to school with a kid that had 2 tigers in his backyard in Elm Grove. His neighbors were not exactly thrilled with the situation. They moved not long after the tigers showed up, hopefully to  somewhere where those guys could roam a bit...

And they guys has like 24 +/- of those types of exotic snakes...  He has permits but why have them  It is not like you can hold them or pet them?  At least he saw it missing right away and notified the right people.

@Maisey1: Was that the one where the little kid went out to the cage and stuck his arm in and the tiger tore it off? I thought that happened out east of Houston.

So happy they found it. I am not a fan of snakes. The twitter account was priceless though! 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Gosh I hope not! He had all his limbs when he moved away, but that was back in 1985 so who knows. Maybe I should try to find him on facebook to make sure he is still in one piece!
