Found this article, good info and to the point.Only thing I disagree with is cleaning newer style gas tops looks easier to me. It seems I can never get hard stains out of my induction top no matter what I do. And the edges of it, hard to clean around mine but I have an old school one from the 80's. Still better than those old burners though. Those were the worse. factorybuilderstores .com/compare-electri c-gas-induction-cook tops/?utm_sourc 4951

Cooking with gas is great, would never willingly go back to electric.  Higher heat, instant on/off, PITA to clean though. 4951

When I remodel going with gas.I already have the gas line in place. Cooks so much better that electric and a lot more control on heat. 4951

The smell is awful for me. I have some kind of sensitivity to it. And I think it makes a house so much hotter in the summer when you use gas. Most likely this is just in my mind

@Fallon: I don't smell a thing and the heat goes out the vent.  If we are going to have something on the burner for many hours we do it on the outdoor burners - or slow-cooker it..

I am trying to decide gas or induction when I re-do. Gas does waste some energy, but I like the instant on/off. Induction is most efficient, but I would not be able to use my ancient amber Corning Ware rice pot any more. 4951

@beastmode: I suspect the "induction" cooktop from the 80's you mention is more likely a ceramic cooktop, induction was very rare in the 80's and it is almost (but not quite) as controllable as gas since it heats the pan and not the cooktop.

I was raised on a wood stove & later we went to gas , thought it was great . Then I married & we bought an electric stove I loved it except for cleaning , it was terrible. I now have a glass top self cleaning oven  convection oven & I wouldn't trade it for anything . It's easy to clean the top & the oven cleans it's self. 4951

@CartmanUK35: It's an old JennAir from the late 70's but the burners are 3 catridges, each with 2 burners. You can get whatever style of burner you want for it which is cool. It also came with inserts for a grill and a large skillet. Just pop out the cartridge and put in whatever you need, takes 2 seconds.
