Any good advice on what to eat for over 45 year old women to slim down? It really gets harder the older you get. Breakfast ideas? Lunch? I know exercise and less calories is a basic. I just want to see if anyone has any good ideas recipes or tips. Thanks! 4951

Is this a personal goal or doing it to please someone else?If not health related.......enjoy a good meal.....take a walk daily....drink a glass of water before you eat....you will feel fuller eating less and still enjoy your food....But over 45? Get ot the knitting needles and get 15 cats....youre toast!😋😏😙 4951

@Ray:

Are you kidding? That's prime.
It's all about consumption. Size of the meal, forget about booze and limit dining out, etc. Easy to do if you can manage that. As you said you already know the answer. 4951

@Ray: Gomer! I'm sure it's been ages since you've seen 45 except maybe on an interstate sign.

I am 13 years on the + side of 45 and have lost 60 lbs since Christmas.  I walk 3 to 7 miles a day depending on the weather.  I eat pretty much what I want however it is basically how much of it I eat.  Breakfast can be a Special K protein bar and coffee, a cup of Special K or Cherrios instead of a huge bowl full with low fat milk or a couple of boiled eggs.  Lunch today is green beans and chicken fettucine and sugar free pudding.  Snack is a couple of pieces of fruit (Clementines).  Dinner tonight will most likely be a grilled chicken fajita with grated cheese and avocado.  Sometimes it is chicken breast, salmon, tuna or pork chops.  Occasionally roast beef.  Potatoes, zucchini etc.  Just the quantity is greatly reduced. There are lots of good recipes on PINTERST  that I use.

My friend lost about 35 lbs on the Atkins diet and has stayed on it for the 2 years. She stays on it but does go off sometimes. Cut out sugar that helps. Also walk about hour and half a day. You can break it up in 20 min intervals or 30 min. Take a dog with you, they will love it, don't think of it as a diet. Get a walking buddy. Join YMCA. Best of luck to you! 4951

Absolutely there is hope. 45 is not old!!Keep in mind weight loss is simple math, its calories in and calories out, as long as you expend more than you eat you will lose weight guaranteed.For starters, find out what your daily caloric intake should be based on your height, age and weight, then set your daily goal about 300 less. If you do decide to exercise, don't eat back those calories (at least not at first).To make it easier to meet the daily caloric goal,  the best advice I can give you is try to stick to as many whole unprocessed foods a possible.Lean Meats, Fruits, Vegis, Whole grains and the like. Make small changes in the things your buying already, like switching to skim milk or lowfat cheese (every little bit helps).For the first month or two use myfitnesspal app (its frree) to track your calories. Its easy to use and really helps your mind get right on what has how many calories and what a normal portion should look like.By far the most important thing people always seem to forget when trying to lose is to drink lots of water, I mean lots. Like you think you drink enough, now double that and then drink some more. It really helps with hunger and metabolism.Make sure to eat small healthy snacks throughout the day, so you don't feel like your starving before meal time, stuff like baby carrots, apples, lowfat yogurt,or grapes.Stuff I like to eat when counting calories.Breakfast:Whole grain toast with 1 scrambled egg and slice of turkey bacon.Cereal and skim milk. (not the sugary stuff, lol)Lunch:I pretty much eat a big salad for lunch every day, lots of tomatoes and cucumbers. I regularly switch up the dressing to keep it from getting to boring.Sandwiches, whole grain bread, turkey, lowfat cheese, lettuce and tomato.If Im in the mood for a hot lunch ill make some ramen (throw away the season packet) in the microwave with  with frozen veggies, soy sauce and hotsauce.Dinner: (I save the majority of my calories for this meal because I like a big dinner)This is always a mix, because Im eating whatever my family is, I just try and figure how many calories I have left for the day and how much I can eat based on what we are having.Other tips: Limit alcohol to one or two days a week. Skip those cookies, cakes and misc. treats that seem to creep in on a  nearly daily basis from birthdays, co workers, and friends (they really add up).Don't drink soft drinks at all, they aren't worth the calories. If you have little kids, don't finish thier meals, LOL, You'd be surprised how many extra calories that is.Lastly, Weight loss can be a grind and takes lots of patience. Don't expect to drop 20 pound immediately. Its a slow process, 1-2 lbs a week is a normal sustainable loss. That's only 4-8 lbs a month. But stick with it for 6 months and be patient and that can be 25-50 lbs. Slow weight loss is best anyway because it changes your habits.I know this is long but its a subject Im passionate about, having always struggled to maintain a healthy weight.Good Luck!! 4951

Plenty of water, walking every day and a good protein drink replacing one meal a day is working for me. I use the body fortress powder with 1% milk. I feel better than I have in years.  I have not lost a ton of weight, but my clothing fits better and that works for me. I have two weight challenged people living with me, so I cook regular to high calorie dinners. If I didn't eat like they do, I would probably see a lower number on the scale. 4951

There is hope, you just have to work even harder to lose (or even maintain) weight as you get older! There are so many options out there, but the key is finding what works for you. After gaining around 15lbs last year I decided to eat less and exercise more. That did not work for me, though. The more I ran, the more I craved carbs. I would do good for a couple days then cave in. When I got hungry, I got very hungry and irritable and could not break the cycle. In May I decided to try something different. I stumbled across a website (ruled.me) that is a great resource for very low carb. I lost those 15 lbs in less than 2 months and have kept them off for 2 more. It's like Atkins without all the products to buy. I love to cook at home and the recipes provided are good and more importantly for me, very filling. I no longer crave sugar and carbs. I still can workout and I can usually make it work when I go out to eat. When I do eat more carbs than I should in a day (which I rarely do) I find that I can easily get right back on track the next day. Low carb is not for everyone, but the results of following it closely are almost immediate. I got my neighbor to try it and she lost 9 lbs the first week. I know that much of that was water weight, but for some, just seeing the scale finally move in a downward direction is all they need to motivate them to stay on this diet. 4951

@cindysthpw: because of my cancer they don't want me to gain. I stay away from beef. Peanut butter makes you gain lots of weight. I eat organic almond butter with coconut oil. Really good. Instead of that spread it on cucumbers in the morning. Refreshing. I eat avocado. Lunch Tomato sandwich none of that lunch meat with nitrates. Light dinner ground turkey meat loaf, fish or grilled pork chops with couple fresh veggies. I make a lot of one dish casseroles. Chicken breast on bottom. Carrots and sweet potatoes cut on top. Good meal. I lost weight doing this. Good luck. Not much bread or rice or pasta. Unless wheat
