Just wondering what the going rate is? Mom told me the other day that she would rather be cremated then buried even though her mother left her some empty plots at the old cemetery in Bristol, TN where she some other family is. My FiL died a few years back and was cremated and we put his ashes in the Pacific off of Newport Beach as my BiL had a big catamaran we all could go out on.  I know there is that funeral home up front and I think there is one on Russel Palmer. Both of my parents did a prepay thing with the Georgia Cremation Society and I think it was around $400 for each one and that included pick up and returning them afterwards in a card board box. 4951

Since we do so much traveling outside of the US we have made plans to have our remains cremated if we should pass outside of the US.  If we die in the US our remains are to be shipped back to Houston and will be cremated here.We already have our individual urns purchased. Years ago we purchased two crypts in Forest Lawn, Los Angeles....a wise decisions since the price has increased a great deal.We decided  we would make our plans now to spare the families the hassle of making any decisions.......besides we want it done our way.Made arrangements through Kingwood Funeral Home [at the front of Kingwood.  Don't remember the total cost but it wasn't cheap.Suggest you contact The Neptune Society for a realistic price. 4951

Strangest thing I've seen.  While making funeral arrangements for MIL's services someone came in with a large white bakery cake box and gave it to attendant.  When I inquired what that was all about he said "Pet to be cremated".  I know there are  crematories that are exclusively for pets but, a regular funeral home? 4951

My wife passed away from cancer a few months ago and her wish was to be cremated. We chose "Direct Cremation". The cost for one large Urn and two Keepsake Urn's (Cancer Awareness theme) was $2,100.00.In lieu of a service, I hosted a Celebration of Life ceremony here at the house two weeks after she passed. Also, I have chosen Direct Cremation for myself and already prepaid for it. Less the cost of the Urns, the total was $1,400.00 with the same Funeral Home ... They gave me a 10% discount for being a "Preferred Customer" ...Upon my death, both of our Cremains will be entombed in Arlington National Cemetery. 4951

Several years ago, my MIL died from Alzheimers in California.  My wife and her sister and brother were with her when she passed.  She wanted to be cremated but her ashes buried in the family plots in NE LA.  My wife and her brother did some Google searches and made some phone calls.  They paid about $1,000 to have her cremated, then her ashes mailed to us.  You aren't supposed to fly with cremated remains unless you have some kind of permit.  A week or so later, the USPS knocked on my door with a package.  The mail woman was a bit freaked out because the return address was from a crematorium.  I explained that crematoriums are only allowed to use the USPS to ship remains.A couple of months later, we made funeral arrangements in the small town in NE LA (where MIL was born and grew up). We had a service at the church my wife's aunt (MIL's sister) attended.  The uncle had taken a tractor with a post-hole digger attached and dug a hole for the urn.  They also had a headstone already in place.  The cemetary was owned by the people of the area so we didn't need to involve a funeral home.  MIL was buried next to her son who had died a few years earlier. 4951

20 years ago my FIN was cremated.  The total was about $7000.00.  Of course, that included services.  Had to rent a coffin and there was some transportation.  When my grandmother passed she was cremated.  The cost was only $500.00 with no services.     4951

There is a place in Conroe, on 1314 that does direct cremation & it's very reasonable. My friend used them when her husband passed a few years ago. www.mcnuttfuneralhom e.com/Howdy Pepper!!!! :-)  4951

sounds like cremation is the way to go.  caskets are crazy expensive!!!  then there is the plot to bury it, $$$   serious money made to dig a hole and have a priest say a few words.  Cremate me and use me for fertilizer!  I dont want to sit in an urn collecting dust.  Then throw a party with great food, drinks, kareoke and dancing!   4951
