I know there are many people here in Kingwood from Louisiana. I meet people all the time that are like me,  from Louisiana. I know your heart is broken for your friends and family back home, as mine is.  I want us to figure out someway to help. Not everyone can jump in the car and go, but we can all do something. I'm just brain storming here to figure something out. If anyone knows of a local effort that is already in place that I can get plugged into please let me know.  If not, let's do it!Our home church was Istrouma Baptist Church from 2003-2015, when we moved here. If you would like to help they have ways you can do so on their website at istrouma.orgI'm also considering collecting the items they need and making a run over there to deliver them. So if anyone wants to be a part of this please let me know.  ESPECIALLY IF YOU OWN OR HAVE ACCESS TO A TRUCK/TRAILER.thank you so much! 4951

Check out Lone Star Task Force. I know they have been in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs and surrounding areas for days.  It's a volunteer search and rescue group in Montgomery County.  They always need help and members. 4951

It's bad over there. It took us two days to get back from Florida due to 12, 10 & 90 having road closures. I met some people at the hotel that were going north through Shreveport and then down to Houston and that was my plan today if they didnt open up again. You cant go on 10 anywhere near Lafayette due to all the flooding. We had to take 49 up to 190 to get around and even up there you could see flooded houses. Please help if you can. Some of those folks lost everything. 4951

Be careful picking up and going over there right now- I10 is closed between Jennings and Crowley. Also parts around Lafayette. I had friend drive from NOLA- they said it was a nightmare and drove all over the state. Roads that were open when one friend went through weren't open an hour later. It's a very fluid situation ( literally). Hubs told me his customers in BR said that BR is basically an islandPerhaps a donation to the Red Cross would be quicker to the victims and less jeopardy to you.   4951

@Jpgurl:

We left Biloxi today at 8am and just got home a little before 5pm. It's a mess but at least 12 is open again. Another family decided to chance it yesterday and they had to go uo to Shreveport and back down. Took them about 13 hrs. 4951

i can say w/ certainty that donating to red cross is not the best idea.  i have volunteered for them numerous times and witnessed first hand how they mis-manage funds.  always look for a reputable local organization to partner with, the smaller the better.  check the advocate (baton rouge newspaper).  their fb page has plenty of various info https://www.facebook.com/theadvocatebr/

  I have so many many friends that have lost everything. They have started cleanup!! The people of BTR have come together fiercely to Help neighbors and friends alike. To see my FB feed is sheer amazing. They need cleaning supplies: Bleach, gloves, masks, scrubbing items, Large contractor bags. The Tide folks are in route to go into the Denham Springs area. There are friends in South Ms who have gotten convoys with trailer after trailer filled with drywall, cleaning supplies, food, diapers etc to help in cleanup. I agree with @fallon. Most are taking inventory of damage and also walking around in a haze being so overwhelmed!!! There are many many ways to send donations. As the list of needed items grows for victims of the Louisiana Flood of 2016, many have asked where they can send donations if making a cash donation isn't an option. There are organizations taking those donations, and this is a list of those. For those who choose to mail items, it's best to send new, packaged items, which can be done directly through online stores like Amazon, Jet or WalMart.If you're packing items yourself, make sure do so carefully. Before sending any liquids, aerosol cans, batteries or other items you're not sure about, check theUnited States Postal Service's restrictions guidelines. If you're looking for ways to donate time, money or drop off items in the Greater New Orleans area, click here for that list. That page also has a map to help identify the closest location to you.  If you'd prefer to donate time, money or items for animal-specific causes, click here for that list. If you know of another organization that is accepted mailed donations of items, email details of what they are accepting and where items should be sent tocbrasted@nola.com. We'll update this list as that information is available. • United Way of Southeast LouisianaWhat they need: Buckets, bleach, cleaning detergent, mops, Shockwave for mold, mops, brooms, paper towels, large garbage bags, rubber gloves, masks, scrub brushes, scouring pads, sponges, air freshener, toiletries, hand sanitizer, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, hand soap, adult diapers, disposable razors, shaving cream, toilet paper, diapers for babies, baby wipes, baby food, baby formula, sippy cups and bottles, pet cages, kennels, leashes, collars, pet food, cat litter, bottled water, nonperishable food items and school suppliesWhere to mail items:United Way of Southeast Louisiana, 2515 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119United Way of Greater New Orleans, 411 W.
