Get this, anyone heard of VAP? For a volunteer rescue group, they charge you $25 if you want to join and be able to vote on their issues. I questioned their ethics and was immediately sent a text and a return receipt letter banning me. The head "B" who is doing the head "B" (both big honcho directors with big pockets) don't like being questioned. The old VAP and Director used to be lots of work but still fun to work with.

Found another rescue group to "volunteer" my time. Steer clear of this group. The current directors are nothing but bullies

I adopted a rescue from them a couple years ago. They treated me well but most of all they treated Maxcine very well. Sorry you had a bad experience with them. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I love my big doggie baby. Sometimes people don't click. At least another rescue will be happy for your volunteering! Win win. Thanks for your work. 4951

How does a rescue have to treat you.  I take in a dog.  The end. 4951

@fcabanski:

I guess it's called Pet Politics. People who run things get to have it done their way.

I appreciate the rescue people, but in the end, they're just ALL people with flaws, bad days and personal problems. Either you get along or you don't.. Is the OP insinuating this org is NOT legit or not doing a good job? 4951

Someone commented that it was Karma that she was trying to get rid of a pet, so they got rid of her. Where did she say she was trying to get rid of a pet? Sounds like she was a member.  4951

@jessieme23: Nope, she joked about offering up her hubby, not a pet. All rescue groups go through phases, with different people joining and other leaving. People get burn out. People clash, it happens. This time things got heated, and they asked her to leave. Not a huge, but weird when it happens to you. Took myself out of rescue groups before I might make it happen to me. I saw this thread and wondered about replying.  I saw their name postef on a board.  I called and spoke with someone that identified herself as the Director of volunteers and the director of cats.  I thought great.  I am a total cat person.  She said they also have a shelter they need help cleaning.  When I gave her my availability everything changed.  She got snotty and asked why I was wasting her time.  So I thought maybe I could still foster.   I am married, no kids, clean home and the cats would always be inside.  Her voice got louder and she said she was busy and don't bothet calling anymore.I am still scratching my head.  4951

I agree. Until the current bullies running this volunteer rescue group are out of the picture, and I do mean "completely " out of the picture, they will only continue to lose good volunteers and any future volunteers. 4951

It is a shame that rescues lose sight of what is important and egos and politics get in the way.  Unfortunately, I have seen this all too often.  I hate drama, and I will be the first to say, the rescue world is full of crazy nut jobs.  I am happy that I found a wonderful rescue to give my time to fostering, donating and volunteering.  You just have to find what works for you and then move on.  With the huge epidemic we have in Houston it isn't hard to find a group that works for each person that is willing to give their time. 4951

It is always 50/50 with rescues. Some of them are seriously interested in placing dogs in good homes.........and some of them have lists of reasons why nobody ever can have a dog because they force their own personal views upon the adoption process. Do you have a job? Yes? No dog for you. Kids? No? Nope no dog(I have seriously seen this). I have even heard "your yard doesn't have enough shade" for a little lap dog that would probably only be outside long enough to pee. He was furious, turns out after he left that he had a political sign in his yard the lady didn't agree with(it was some sheriff candidate and the lady was related to the current sheriff). Those rescues drive me up the wall because it is just bitter ladies with no power at home(I'm profiling sue me, but that has been my experience) lording over people trying to adopt a dog.I honestly wish there was a rating site for rescues so that the scuzzy ones could be weeded out by potential adopters(and volunteers)  so they don't bother going to them as I feel it forces many to turn to sites like Craigslist to get dogs(which is not a good thing as it creates a need for stolen dogs in metro areas) when they strike out at several of the bad ones. 4951

Everyone is able to go to a shelter and adopt, rescues have their process for a reason, we don't want our animal in a bad situation, or one that is not a good fit.  The idea is to do our due diligence for both the adopter and the pet.  No rescue wants to have to have a pet returned.  The plus side to a rescue, animal has been fostered and any issues can be identified and addressed or at least worked on.  If you adopt straight from a shelter, you may or may not get a healthy pet.  Shelters screen very little as well, and the poor animals are returned or worse sold to another person on craigslist, because the adopter is a flipper.  There are many sides to the argument, finding the rescue you want to support or adopt from, is something I recommend research be done on. 4951
