@SwimSwimI'm a veteran Emoticon  You'll be okay!  I was pretty busy with the other three when #1 went.  She was out of state so we only saw her for Christmas and summer.  Hardest for me was when Dd moved overseas for three years, I was very sad.  I spent a few weeks redecorating my bedroom.  Make sure you have good communication rules, so you don't worry.  My one rule was, respond to me if I reach out to you, if only with a txt that says I'm alive and don't want to talk to you.Right now I have two home for the rest of the summer, I love them dearly, but am a fan of the empty nest now. 4951

@SwimSwim, we have 3 on our street that are leaving this year, and we are all sad.  I don't know how their moms are going to handle this.@MarT, it is good to know we can get through this.  My oldest keeps telling me, only 2 more years mom, and I am gone.  I may put a tracking device in him....

@Fallon: We should chip them like our pets, but only with real time tracking.  Emoticon

She is my only and we are pretty close.  Its killing me, but when I see how happy and determined she is, how the heck can I not be happy for her.  Ive only cried in front of her one time, in Walmart of all places and I was mortified.  I don't want to project my feelings onto her.  But dang, Lubbock is a long way awayAnd my DH and I are working out the detail of this new chapter of our lives and that's a good thing. 4951

@SwimSwim: I think it's okay if she knows you are sad, just as long as she knows you'll be okay and you support her.  I shed a lot of tears, you will too, but you will also get used to it.  Make plans to go for short visits.  My boys were within a few hours and it was pretty easy to pop in and take them out for lunch, buy some groceries and just put my eyes on them so I knew they were okay.  It's been fun for hubby and I to reconnect just the two of us.  We've enjoyed it, we still like each other and have plenty in common.  I hate those stories where the marriages split when the kids leave.

@MarT: Well, she is going to be in Lubbock, so a pop in visit would be hard Emoticon  But we do have some plans to go up for parents weekend in October.
My husband is my favorite person to hang out with so I know we will have fun  I didn't get this far with him to quit now! 4951

@swimswim:  @goldengirl and I sent our sons away to college the same year and we filled a landfill with Kleenex when they left. Although we were sure we wouldn't survive it, we're still alive and doing just fine, as are our boys. Your daughter knows that you are just a text away, or a Skype call, or a plane ride. She likely wants to go out there and try it on her own but every moment that she's out there she will know that she's never alone. You and your dh will get to know each other all over again, and realize that y'all are free to do absolutely anything you want to do whenever you want to do it. I figure some of the things you'll be doing will involve Lubbock. EmoticonYou raised your girl to be her own person. You gave her wings to fly. Now it's her turn to use what you taught her and make her own mark. Congratulations, Mom.... things are about to get amazing! 4951

@QueenB is right..   You both will be fine and in many ways closer than ever...   The really scary part is when they come home !!!!  ha ha   My baby was gone a couple years and decided to transfer to University of Houston so he is back home..   I love him so much but I sure did get used to being an empty nester...     Laundry and cleaning became a breeze...Say a prayer you will be fine !!!!   4951

On a less emotional tangent - I imagine you will help drive her to college and unload the million items to be crammed into a small room. Rent a dolly from UHaul to make the unload easier.

Don't forget how easy it is to send a care package via Amazon Prime. I was surprised to see so many options of goodies available.

You could also pay online and send a pizza to her when you know she will be in the dorm. My mom used to send me my favorite Chinese food and kolaches via Greyhound. The pickup spot was just a few miles from my apt and it would still be warm just going from Houston to College Station. I love being the baby! 4951

Not going to lie. It's hard. But the growth that happens in them without us makes all our pain worthwhile. Just make sure she knows how happy you are for her enthusiasm. When I went to college, we didn't have cell phones (I'm ancient) -- a collect call home every couple of weeks.... Be grateful for how easy it is for us now! 4951
