Not the crap we see today. To me a horror movie is something that really happened such as the exorcist or jaws when I was growing up. 4951

Back in the late sixties, when "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" was shown on TV for the first time. That was scary (as a young teenager). Then "The Wolfman" came out, that was pretty scary.Vampires and Mummies never really scared me, although my mom was terrified of mummies. My daughter literally locks her dolls up in her closet, to this day.She can not handle any kind of animated doll, scares the crap out of her. She is NOT a horror movie kind of person. She watched Rose Red (well the first 30 minutes anyway) and could not sleep for a couple weeks.I find most horror movies are pretty boring today, but maybe because I have seen so many, the suspense and plot all are so predictable to me. 4951

Don't like them, don't watch them. Now I do like a good scary suspense or ghost story movie. When it comes to movies, scare me but don't gross me out with blood, guts and slasher effects.

Back in the day. I loved the original Poltergeist. The sequels were alright, but they got cheesier each time. Haven't liked much since, but The Others, with Nicole Kidman was pretty decent. 4951

I think of Horror movies as being those cheesy "scary" movies that involves stupid kids getting killed by some ax-wielding (or chainsaw or whatever) fool. The scariest movie I can think of for me was What Lies Beneath. I started watching it alone one night and had to turn it off because it creeped me out. The next day I finished it but made my 1 yr old daughter sit with me for comfort. That was the first and last time I saw that movie! 4951

that is a tough question.  i associate horror movies w/ the dumb slasher type flicks such as Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm St, etc, b/c that is what hollywood seems to call horror.  "I" would define horror as something that scares me to bits, which is hard to do.  First, I have to take it seriously, to some extent at least.  Gore does not = horror for me, it's just gross. How do you define a horror film @Brat ? 4951

Remember when horror movies advertised that a medic would be available during all shows? The BlobThe TinglerThe Fogand the one where the plants took over your body (or created a clone).  I can't remeber the name. When my son was about 10, he wanted to stay up and watch a "horror" movie.  I knew it was spooky but not too bad, so we let him.  About half way through the movie, I crawled out of our bedroom, behind the couch, and waited for an appropriate part of the movie to say "HEY!".  It startled him but he laughed and went back to watching the movie. 4951
