Just curious if anyone has ever been insulted bc of being a stay at home mom. I was today. I actually handled myself very well just sat there smiling. I was told since I have been home a while. In which, I have had many odd jobs here & there gone to school passed ems classes started my own cleaning business. Running errands for people. That I probably could not handle the stress of answering multi phone lines filing & copying for a high end store. Very frustrating that people still see stay at home moms this way. 4951

My Wife is a SAHM and she works harder than I do. My job is only 8-9 hours a day, hers is easily 12 to16 and her 2 bosses (the kids) are much more disagreeable then mine. SAHMs can do anything. 4951

I'll add that I am a SAHD for just the last 4 months and it is incredibly stressful and hard job testing my mind! 5yo twins are just ontop of each other. My wife stayed home with them last summer and couldn't wait too go back to work. And her job can be really stressful and demanding 4951

Good on you. I have nothing but the utmost respect for SAHM. My wife did it, and it is hard, sometimes thankless work. She chose to do it and left a wonderful job. She worked her *** off with 3. Maybe I didn't tell her enough how much I appreciated her efforts over the years. That is on me. I can't compare, but I do know our grown kids were/are extremely happy, healthy, organized, successful, a bit spoiled, but do have respect for the family concept. From my perspective, if we were to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing...she might, but I don't think so. 4951

I wouldn't worry about it. When I went back to work after staying home for 7 years I had one lady make it clear that she wasn't interested in me because I had kids and probably couldn't handle the stress of taking care of them and working at the same time. I figure it was their loss anyway and went on to find a great job elsewhere.   4951

Wow. They actually told you you were not qualified because you are a SAHM? Not that you should be judged that way, but you might indicate that you were a business owner on your resume. 4951

@pickles: when I was younger and starting out, I would always get asked if I had children.  I actually had one hiring person tell me they would not hire a mom.My ex and I made a conscious decision for me to quit working when we started having children.  My husband now believes in the same thing.  I have worked full time when I have needed to but always lucked out in finding jobs where I could work while she was at school.  If someone is like that before they hire you, think how awful they would be to work with. 4951

Back in 82 (I feel old now), we chose for me to stay home with our first born.  It was tough financially and on me because most other women I knew with kids were working but we managed.  Don't regret it at all. 4951
