volunteer work on hours requirements.

@theclan: I've never heard of that before...what is it?

Hospitals should have volunteer positions. They use to be called candy stripers.

Check with dog kennels, SPCA, etc. Your local vet might also have volunteer positions available. 4951

@herron1345: Now how did I forget about the Houston Food Bank? Volunteered there a few times as a work-related team building, community service project. Very hard work but extremely rewarding, each time. 4951

I always thought some of the many able bodied using the services of the food bank could volunteer their time there. 4951

@Sniper12: I'm not always an Ice Queen. I had a good time, each time we served there, plus my company paid us for the day, then paid for happy hour/dinner afterwards.

So "volunteer" was a very loose use of the word? 4951

@ET: No, smart ***, we worked our tails off. A half day of sorting and packing the food bags is hard work and a regular shift at HFB. How about you take your own advice and "just let it go"?

Oooh a full day's pay for some manual labor, tough duty. Hopefully you didn't have to get your own drinks at the bar too. 4951

The Seamen Church and the Houston International Seafarers Center would love volunteers. Interesting places with lots of neat people. 4951
