The emergency vet. Why?!?! Because that GD idiot dog next door...again. She managed to stick her stupid head through 2 fences, where the 2 fences meet at a 90 degree, past the privacy fence we built last weekend. The fight ensued. Zora's upper lip is torn. So here we are. At what point do I start taking the neighbor my vet bills? Because I've had enough of this crap. 4951

MMMM.... Enough is enough.  I would be taking the vet bill over in a heartbeat.  You could always turn them in for vicious dog since it has happened before?  Maybe some chicken wire or something is in order but you should still not have to put up with that.   4951

@taramayAwwwww, dude, I am SO very sorry this is how you're spending your Saturday night at 9:45....How's Zorra doing and how are her injuries, chica?  That poor canine of yours has been taking a straight beating........Dizzamn.... Enough is enough, and this is PAST enough in my humble opinion....  I say, if you know their phone number, hit them up right now, and in a calm manner, let them know where you are and why (unless they already know) and ask what's a convenient time to meet up tomorrow, that this has to end.....   4951

I would think it cheaper to just fix or build a proper fence than ER vet bills? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results = insanity ... 4951

@Andreweggplant:

Problem is...my dog doesn't like other dogs either. So he could say mine is aggressive too. He had put up chicken wire and made his wear a cone while outside so she couldn't get her head through. That was his grand solution. I told him tonight that we did the best we could by putting up a privacy fence, at our own cost. He said he'd fix it...but he's the laziest person ever. So I'll believe it when I see it. 4951

@KooKooCaChoo:

We did build a proper fence. The dog had to stretch it's head about a foot through 2 fences to get snatched up. We have done our part over and over. It's the neighbor who has done very little with no results. Our dogs can't fit through the fences...it's his. What's irritating is that we're the ones paying to fix his problem. 4951

@taramay: Maybe the privacy fence needs to be a bit more secure? What is missing? I have a dog but she cannot get through the fence around my yard.  Emoticonlus she is not outside unsupervised... 4951

@herron1345:

She's has a tear on her upper lip. I opted to not have it stitched up. Having her sedated, stitched up, in a cone for 2 weeks, and then removing the stitches...just for cosmetic reasons wasn't worth it to me. She may not be as "beautiful"...but she has lots of scars from the previous fight anyway, so this will just be another blemish. Plus...she'll always be beautiful to me!

I don't have the neighbors number. Kenny is going to run chicken wire along the rest of our fence tomorrow, so there shouldn't be anywhere for his dog to get through any longer. It's easier to fix it ourselves than to wait for him to do it. 4951

@Andreweggplant:

We live in the country out here. Most people have strictly outside dogs. My dogs are in and out all day. They stay in at night. His dogs are in and out as well. Sometimes their times outside overlap. When I know his are out, I keep mine in. The fence is extremely secure. We stopped it where his stops and ours continues. We probably could have kept going a few feet to avoid this from happening, but didn't think (obviously) that they would be able to get at each other with the way we built it.

In the picture, on the far right, where the black pole is...is where his dog got through. She had to have like 1/2 her body through their fence to get through ours.

Edit...apparently pictures aren't working! 4951

Does the fence side face you or your neighbors home?

From an insurance/legal point this typically edicts whom is responsible for both repairs and upkeep.

If it's your responsibility/side you aren't going to get much reimbursement sympathy from a liability perspective.

If the picketts face your lot with the framing behind i believe it is your responsibility to secure your own fence.

@taramay:
Gotcha... Maybe a few mouse traps set between the two fences... They really won't hurt the dog but will get it's attention... Bad neighbors suck.... I have a couple of them. The fence is theirs but they do not want to help replace it... 4951

It is our fence. We built it. We know it would be easier to be responsible for it than to try and get him to help. 4951

Send him a certified letter and include your vet bill. If this has happened before include that. If he doesn't respond. Take your copy of letter and take him to small claims court and call animal control. Expect your neighbors not to nice or friendly anymore. My friend spent thousands on a new fence because the neighbor behind her let them chew my friend fence. After spending thousands on a new better wood fence, she goes outside and their is a new hole and the neighbor's dog is sticking through. Her dh came home and said that's it, so they had a nice brick wall built on their side of the fence.she said if she had to do over, she would have built the brick. She has no dogs. One bad dog owner. 4951
