she has been set up with 2 temp agency's for 5 months now.
@Sniper12: I would sign up for more than two. She could have just hit some that are not very busy. Agencies are only as busy as their marketing team is aggressive. They are also fighting for business and competing for accounts, and if they aren't out there hustling for new accounts, they don't have much to offer.
Another tip would be to broaden her search, going for administrative work that isn't narrowly focused on accounting. An accounting degree could also qualify her for general office admin, HR, IT, practice support, even legal...anything business related.
Also, don't be so married to a specific job title. As long as the money and the pay are there, who cares about the title.
In today's climate, flexibility is the key. Gone are the days where you can say "I want an accountant job at Insperity in Kingwood" and expect to get it quickly. Those with such narrow parameters either give up and stay unemployed or end up horribly disappointed, working as a general file clerk in Katy. That's what I was trying to tell another KDCer looking for a job for his GF who would only consider jobs in KW. Not sure she ever found anything, but then again, it's difficult to help someone who won't take advice. Be willing to work all over Houston and surrounding areas, and in any industry. No one said it has to be forever. Stay a year or two and then move within the company or use the stability and full-time position as a stepping stone to the next position that more closely fits what's she really wants.
I don't mean to sound preachy but 25 resumes is not a lot at all. She should hit the search hard and apply for 5-10 or more positions every day or two. Hit the job websites (indeed.com, monster.com, careerbuilder.com, simplyhired.com, as well as LinkedIn's own job listings), and jump those opportunities. Set up alerts for newly posted positions, etc. Don't rely on the agencies to call her...she should make cruising those websites her new full-time job.
Once I decided it was time to make a move, it took about 2-1/2 months to secure the position I wanted. I went on several interviews, including intros with agencies, and second/third-round call-backs.
If you want, I can PM you a list of agencies I've used over the years.
Hope this helps! 4951
