We were awakened at 6:45 this morning with my DW phone ringing. At first we both thought it was her alarm as it goes off on the weekdays but then realized it was a call. My DW answered it and it was her mother who lives over at Watercrest by the college. She wanted to know why she was back in the hospital again. My DW explained she was at home and not in the hospital. She finally convinced her because she had her dog with her and if she was in a hospital the dog wouldn't be there and all her pictures were on the walls. She wondered how come it was so dark outside and my DW told her what time it was. She finally agreed to just go back to bed. I sure don't look forward to making it to 89 or whatever age I get to. When you can't remember you're at home in your bed life just gets a bit too strange. 4951
When my mom and my MIL did that, they both had UTI's. One of the side effects/symptoms in old folks. If it continues take her to the dr.
@sh56: That's exactly what I was going to say. Â UTIs in the elderly don't show up like the rest of us. It presents with increased confusion. Â It's a lot easier for them to get one too. 4951
OMG!  Your poor wife!  Your poor MIL.  Maybe it would be a good idea if you guys picked her up and she stayed at your house just for the weekend.  That way you could kind of monitor her.  Also, make sure she has enough liquids.  Old people tend not to drink as much water as they should.  She might even need one of those drinks with electrolytes in it.  I wonder if she accidently took her meds wrong.  Sometimes these doctors have older people on so many meds it's hard for them to keep up with it.  My MIL is 86 and does not eat or drink enough. 4951
Thanks all. Just got off the phone with her and my DW reminded her to stay hydrated. I was over yesterday and looked at her daily pill box and it all seemed in order. She does take potassium as her body just doesn't seem to produce the right amount and that is the one we a really have to watch. She remembered calling us and said she just got confused. It looked like her bedroom but then it didn't. She was making her usual breakfast, a waffle fried in butter with a big squirt of syrup on it. I just took her on Tuesday for her check up with her GP and they did blood work. The nurse called Friday and said everything looked great, cholesterol, kidney function, potassium and thyroid. She said the numbers looked better than back in January. Even anemia was improved. 4951
