An unprincipled vote is the only wasted vote.
Voting for a third party, contrary to popular belief, is not a wasted vote. http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Columns/2016/06/21/Your-Vote-Third-Party-Candidate-Won-t-Be-Waste-2016 4951

@deltadawn:  Thank you for the article, but the first link didn't work.  I agree with the second article!  I will probably vote Libertarian this year.  We need at least one more party in the system to try to move forward.  I don't think the Libertarians will win this year, but with candidates like Trump and Hillary (gag), the Libertarians may start building a base for the future. @podunk:  I was planning to vote for Perot until he went ape-**** crazy.Since we have the electoral college that actually elects the President, and Texas has voted heavily Republican in the past few decades, Trump should get the 38 electoral college votes for Texas.  If it sounds like it will be a closer race, I'll vote for Trump to try and keep Hillary from winning our state. 4951

It is indeed wasted, except to the individuals who feel the need to vote their heart, but in a sense their vote doesn't count! All that person is doing is voting to declare they went to the polls and voted so they don't look like a smuck!

The candidates on a third party or those who are written in will NEVER garner enough votes to put them in office, but those votes could make a difference to one side or another in the case of a close vote! In this election it WILL BE either Trump or Hillary, like it or not, that's how it is! If any of those 3rd party (libertarian) candidates really, really wanted to get the publics interest, they would have begun their quest back in 2012! All the conservatives were upset over Obama's win and the failures of the RINOS in Washington! That's when they should have stepped up and raised their voices, got out in the public eye, did whatever they could to get media coverage!

Instead, they were basically silent until Trump was winning the nomination! No one knows much about them, I sure don't. ..never heard of them until about April. So now they are promising the world top siphon votes from Trump to give Hillary the win!

Same damn thing happened with Ron Paul & Ralph Nader and other 3rd party candidates in the past! No chance in hell they will win, but they sure will hand the win to the Democrats! Democrats don't split. ..look at the current race! Sanders endorses Clinton even thought they really had separate campaigns. ..anything to get Hillary elected! Damn conservatives chew each other up and spit them out then wonder why the Democrats stay in office! 4951

@podunk:  That's just Harris County.  If Trump or Hillary win the state by even one vote, they get all 38 Texas electoral votes.For those that want to see the results by county, here is the webpage where I got the above.  elections.nbcnews.co m/ns/politics/2012/a ll/president/#.V5Az1 zX50wc

I realize that, just showing where those 3rd party votes hand it to the Dems, but Harris Co still won't break away from Dem representation....and the state is shifting that way bc of a number of things. That % gap isn't much considering Obama's first term. 4951

I don't think Hillary is as strong as projected. I could see her losing the popular vote by a considerable amount. Cruz just endorsed Trump and most of his voters will go to Trump. Hillary won't be getting a big chunk of Bernie's voters. Her and the DNC burnt that bridge badly. Lots of shady stuff going on to create a facade of strength. She would have still won the nomination but it should have been much closer. 4951

Lol, it's all good. Bush still pulled it out in TX by a hair. I was too young to vote. We did a mock election at our school that year and I was the official class vote counter. It was roughly 70 Clinton, 20 Bush, 10 Perot.....dang millennials. 4951

@TexasOma:

I actually know quite a few democrats that will vote third party if they don't like their canidate. I also know quite a few independents. I'm almost willing to bet the number of Democrats willing to vote third party is roughly equal to the number of Republicans willing to do the same. Especially with this race. Most of my friends were hard core Bernie Sanders supporters. Now that he is out, they will be throwing in with the Libertarian party rather than give their vote to Hillary. Sanders may have endorsed Hillary, but the people that truly backed his campaign will not switch over. An endorsement without followers doesn't amount to much. Heck I even have a handfull that are saying they are still writing Sanders in and voting for him. So your assumption that Democrats don't split is wrong. They may be better at putting on an united front, but they do split. 4951

@bp2018: As a Democrat and Sanders supporter (and European socialist) who doesn't get to actually cast a vote. I find it so insane that people who share my beliefs/values could decide to vote libertarian, their views are generally so incompatible with mine, and should be with anyone who supported Sanders, which tells me they are only doing it to spite Hillary, which amounts to cutting off ones nose to spite ones face and will result in Trump being elected, which will be a disaster for this country and the world. I don't see how they can, in good conscience, do that.
