My eyes are burning after swimming at the community pool. I found out they only check the levels on Wednesdays. Is that safe to just check once per week?
Can the chemicals effect my eye sight? Or my hair? 4951

I've never heard of a community or public pool that doesn't check their levels several times a day during the busy summer months!  That sounds very odd. 4951

The Chemicals mostly likely will not hurt anything but make your eyes a little irritated.   The water should be checked every single day at a public pool.  It takes about 30 seconds to test the basic water chemistry. The reason it should be checked every day is most commercial pools use liquid or chlorine gas to handle the sanitation of the pool water.  These chemical use pumps to inject the chemicals in the water based on various factors.  If there is something wrong with those systems the chemical imbalance can quickly get out of hand.  The most likely cause of the irritation to your eyes is lack of sufficient chlorine not to much chlorine.  The chlorine level in pool water should be very close to that of tap water.  4951

If you color your hair, it could effect it if you don't wash it out.  As for your eyes, unless you were staying underwater with your eyes open for prolonged periods of time, you should be fine.  I doubt that they don't check their levels several times a day, it is required by state law/health codes that levels be logged every few hours.  That is the first thing a health inspector will ask to see when checking a pool facility, even more so than lifeguard certifications.  Especially in Texas, with the sun being so hot and strong and the water being so warm (a breeding ground for nasty bacteria), the water is mandated to be checked VERY often,  Whoever told you that it is not checked but only once a week is ill informed. 4951
