I don't even get TV signals so I won't be watching either but I really don't have much interest in reading about them or listening on the radio. About the last one I really remember was the one in 1968 in Chicago which was like watching a hockey game where you watch the fights as well as the game. I usually don't bother with most state of the union speeches either so maybe it's just me. I get tired of endless speeches that seem to go nowhere or have much chance of becoming policy. This year could be a bit more interesting just because the people running are so much more unusual than in past years. The party platforms for both sides are always amusing as they seem to be written by the most extreme elements.  My Saturday morning radio shows have been preempted for coverage so I switched to Pandora. 4951

The conventions have mostly turned into a giant party for the party elite.  Some platform issues are debated, but the majority of the platform issues are already set in place.  It sounds like the Republicans have, for the most part, accepted Trump as their candidate.Hillary will obviously be the Democratic candidate, but some of Bernie's supporters may push for some of their issues to be included.I've never watched an entire convention and I won't watch these either. 4951

Prostitutes will be flocking to the cities where the conventions are held.  They get plenty of work from the delegates/elites of both parties.  4951

@Retired_Engineer: They should be applauded for being so nonpartisan! They act more professional than most of our elected leaders!

@Retired_Engineer: Gotta keep the working girls in business. At least they are working. People want to condem strippers, hookers, etc., but at least they are making an effort, getting out and earning money. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: remember they are getting paid to get screwed. this makes  them quite unusual as member of the public vis-a-vis politicians. most of us are paying to get screwed by them
it is an unusual election. i would be tempted to watch some merely to see how credulous the speakers really think the american public is. talk to some europeans. they are watching this with a mixture of horror and bemusement. the next cycle may see a swing back to reality and politics instead of showbusiness 4951
