Plain and simple:  They're idiots (AKA possible Darwin Award Candidates).Recently, a woman sat at the very edge of the Grand Canyon to have her picture taken to post on the internet.  When she went to stand up, she fell over the edge over 300 ft to the bottom.  She obviously died from the fall. 4951

25 people a year die from getting too close to the edge.

@Fallon: It wasn't the getting close to the edge that killed them. It was the falling off that did it.

@Retired_Engineer: didnt she fall a couple hours after the pic was taken?
I read she fell when she was trying to scoot over to let another hiker pass

@mm4731:  Yeah, I went back to read the story and you are correct.  Sorry for the misinformation.

When we went I made darn sure my kids didn't get close to any edges! I read a book (Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon) about the deaths that have occurred in the Grand Canyon just before visiting there and was actually tempted to just skip that little sightseeing trip!  4951

The Park Rangers at the Grand Canyon told us upwards of 25 people a year die from getting too close to the edge.  One said people seem to think they are at an amusement park, and do not think at all.That said, some of the edges are way closer than you think they areEmoticon

@Fallon:

It's like the selfie guy who fell in the geyser.
