Crap, poor people can't afford decent coverage for health insurance, specially if you are old.Worse than we had while I was employed is still $1,500+ a month.Must just be time to die I guess.Bernie is looking better and better. 4951

@FoFa:

you don't think know that making it "free" for "everyone" will jack up taxes else where and reduce your quality of service? That's foolish. Nothing is free. And what about those of us who do not want health insurance? Why should I be forced to participate in something I don't want, need, or use? 4951

You don't have to pay for it. Tax refunds are not earned income. The penalty is assessed on the refund, not earned income. That would be illegal.  4951

WHAT???  NO... say it isn't so.  What happened, I thought we had the Obama "Affordable Care"....  NOT...  the people i know that do not have insurance say the penalty on their taxes is cheaper.  I guess they don't mind going to LBJ or Ben Taub...

I can't complain too much, ours is affordable.But my sister told me theirs has increased 340% since ACA.  Our only issue is hubby's new employer switched from a really great plan (he worked there in the past)  to a high deductible plan with HSA and they fund the HSA so that it covers the deductible.  Unfortunately, by law we cannot have an HSA.  4951

@Andreweggplant:

I pay cash for all my health care and can go wherever I want. Cash is king. I get priority appointment times too. 4951

@beastmode:

Mine was not when it was company sponsered
This is a ppo bronze plan. I listed our meds, and it did say it would save $100,000+ a year on our meds. The $1,400 a month and $1,300 a month plans (also bronze) said they would only save me $90,000+ a year on our meds.

This is not affordable care in my book. But because I did have a job for half the year, I don't qualify for assistance, even if I can't afford it now. 4951

@allymansfield: How would you handle a catastrophic incident or diagnosis?
I have gotten better rates from a couple of my providers by paying cash before, it was cheaper than my deductible if I just paid them upfront.  Downside is it does not count towards my deductible, but I'm generally healthy and was not planning on meeting the deductible anyway.  I do worry that as I get older, this will not get cheaper. 4951

@ForeCPA90:

we have a savings plan for those types of things. It's just a matter of planning. you loose more money in monthly payments for a services you do that use over tour lifetime than you would if you if just planned and saved. like retirement. 4951
