Giving away my alarm clock to a good home. Who needs one with all the yard crews that decide to start cutting the grass in SWH before 8:00 am. I swear I'm going to move to the country. I understand it is cooler in the early morning, but it is very frustrating to those of us that do not have normal 9-5 hours. 4951

Maybe you can trade your alarm clock for a down payment on double pane windows and ear plugs.  Well, at least maybe the ear plugs...Gotta cut the grass during daylight hours. 4951

Yep working hours are 9 to 5 for 90% of people. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one. 4951

Buddyboy, us first redponders that work odd hours for the protection of the community don't tell people that when they call us over utter nonsense. Just saying It gets annoying when you just worked a 12 + hour shift to be awakened by the sound of mowers and blowers before 8:00 am. I have enough respect not to be working on my sirens late at night. 4951

That's nothing!  My gardener was mowing at 7am the other day AND he parked his idling mower beneath my bedroom window for a few minutes to pick up the junk my kids left in the yard. Emoticon 4951

there are 'quiet hours' in most communities which means there are not supposed to be noise making activities after a certain time in the evening and before a certain time in the mornings. as long as the yard  crews  and home builders etc are abiding by those restrictions, you need to deal with it, not them. invest in earplugs, a white noise generator or whatever works for you. if there had to be a 100% community consensus for what times were allowed for mowing yards  or building fences, yards would be chest deep and there would be no fences or yard crews would be cutting with scissors and fences would be built with rubber hammers 4951

@monyhoney: If you're paying him, you have the right to mandate the work schedule.

www.kingwood.com/cla ssifieds/classifieds .phpHowever, I agree--leaf blowers should be outlawed. Most of the time, the users are blowing for ten minutes to chase a handful of leaves that would've already been gathered for disposal if they used a push-broom. Those machines aren't good for anything except making a lot of noise and CO2 and to enable the laziness of the operators. 4951

Dt3001, my point exactly. My yard crew knows not to come before 9:00 am. If that didn't work for him, then I would have found another crew. Seems most of the folks on here don't know what it is like to have work evening shift or night shift. Some will argue that this is my choice, true but there is a need for 1st responders 24 hours a day. The people that it doesn't bother are probably at their 9-5 jobs so they are not even home anyway. By no means am I looking for sympathy and crying poor little me. After 27 years of being a public servant, I wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again. Just wish I would quit getting woken up by these crews before 8:00 or 9:00. For those that have suggested ear plugs. That is not an option because of my assignment. I have to be available within a hour by phone pretty much 7 days a week. And for those suggesting installing double windows, you may have misread me earlier when I said I was a 1st responder. Cops don't make a lot of money and most of us have to work overtime and extra jobs just to get by. 4951

They are just out there trying to make a living just like you do everyday. It may suck yea but honestly if I did their work I would be out there as early as I could to get most of my work done before the heat comes. You could also offer to mow your neighbors lawns in the free time since you first responders don't make as much as you should. 4951
