Super stoked. I know it isn't the best one on the market, but I got a smoking deal for the base package ($200 for a lens, 64 GB SD card, the camera, case, charger which is half the price for it brand new). It is a Canon EOS Rebel T5. I went out with some friends on Saturday for the first time to test my skills. I think I did relatively well considering I haven't ever used anything besides my point and shoot camera from 2004. I thought I would share some of my photos that just seem happy. My favorite it of the wooden post from the sidewalk. I just think it is neat.

@Kraz2014: Great shots! I just joined the world of DSLR as well. I've been cramming Youtube videos and how-to threads down my throat for the past few weeks, just trying to get a handle on it. I have the Nikon D3300. 4951

I'd recommend checking with the public library, too.  When I got DW hers, she took a few classes with them and it really helped her understand the jargon and get comfortable with many of the options those things offer.  Personally, I'm just glad it has the "auto" button because it'd be useless to me otherwise.  ;-) 4951

@TheChadI did that for a bit and then decided I should just go an try it out. I took probably 400 pictures with maybe 50 decent ones. LOL. I would sit and take the same picture over and over again at different settings to see how they turned out. I was out there all day so the light changed during the day too which made it a good learning experience. I also realize I need a better lens for far off things I want to zoom in on. There are a few stores in Houston that sell used camera equipment. I figure I will get the skills down with this and save for a lens I really love. Good luck. I hope to see your pictures soon.  4951

Pls shoot in raw and then adjust in photoshop. Half of the work is done at the press of the button, the rest is on photoshop.

As before, half of the work was done on a click to film, the other half was done at development process of the pictures to paper.

@TheChad:

Just keep referring to the little pocket manual, keep the camera on manual mode so you quickly figure out how to adjust for conditions and roll with it.

@elguapoI don't have photoshop. Someone posted on KDC yesterday something called PHOTOWORKS Project 3 Elements (http://sharewareonsale.com/s/photo-works-projects-giveaway-coupon-sale) but I am not sure. I actually have to get my personal laptop looked at. I hadn't booted it up in 2 years and it seemed slower than counting to Christmas.It just didn't sound right. @tomayiaAre the classes taught during the day, at night or on the weekends? I work full time (don't judge me Emoticon  my computer is running a calculations 13 minutes in) so I would have to do nights or weekends.  4951

@elguapo:  That's one of the first things a friend of mine told me! Emoticon  I actually keep it in the "Raw + Fine JPEG" setting.I use Affinity Photo though. No photoshop here.

@podunkThat seems like a lot for a casual user. I mean I am not making a profession out of anything. I really got it to take pictures out at the lake, the ranch and of my dogs - you know super important things to people besides me. I also heard photoshop has a pretty steep learning curve. I mean don't get me wrong. If I get really good at it or find it to be the best hobby ever, maybe I would invest $108 a year in it but I don't plan on making my dogs skinnier Emoticon  4951

I use Photoshop elements for photos and premier elements for movies.It was about $90+ bucks for the latest version Paired, (around Christmas) and I have been using it since version 2.I upgrade about 3rd or 4th version typically.I find it well worth the money quite frankly.But a decent free one with decent power that is not too hard to understand is Paint.NetGet it here 4951
