I now remember one reason I hate growing tomatoes. Besides he fact I hate them, but the wife likes them, birds!
Found 3 mocking birds this morning eating them, pulling all of them off the plant, green, pink, red, that didn't care.
So I just took a picture of my new baby jackfruit plant that just emerge yesterday from a seed.

@FoFa:  What about those snails in the pic? Do they cause any problems with young plants?

First off... What the heck is jackfruit?! Second, I read about someone puts red ornaments up before the tomato plant produces to deter the birds.  They peck at the ornaments and realize it's not food and so they don't return. 4951

Same here, my tomatoes are taking a beating. Just hard to grow here. I have about 5 plants going, lots of tomatoes but they most have be compromised. When I lived in PA, no problems. I must have gotten 100 tomatoes off of 4 plants. I did have success with lettuce, basil, broccoli so far. Last year I had a great run with eggplant.  4951

Try a rubber snake beside your tomato plants to scare the birds away. 4951

@monyhoney:

You should Google it. So much info out there. You have probably seen them in stores. They are huge! With a thick bumpy skin. I have seen a lot of articles about them lately, and I'm anxious to try one. Parts of it can be used to make pudding. Other parts can be cooked into vegetarian dishes as a meat substitute because it has the texture of pulled pork. 4951

@FoFaMake a tall cylinder frame and put chicken wire...not the wire in the garden section...actual chicken wire...the holes are smaller...the birds can't get through..then you can just take it on and off (like a hat) when you wanna get tomatoes ..Something like this just taller and more sturdy...

@TEXANSCHICK:  As much as I enjoy your posts, this one was misdirected.  It should have been flagged for @FoFa.   Silly girl!
