1985 used VW golf I bought in 1993. Had over 250K miles on it when I sold it for $100. It likely had more but the odometer broke. Later in its life it would stall for no reason but crank right back up after sitting for 10 minutes. One day it stalled at the top of the Baton Rouge bridge...lol! When the police showed up it fired back up and I rolled out. Thought for sure I would get a ticket but they left me alone. The guy who bought it gave it to his kids to learn how to drive on their property. pretty much tearing it up in a field. He told me it died for good a couple of months later. Not a bad investment for $100. 4951

I had a 72 VW Bug.  Rust got a hold of it well before I bought it, and you could see the road go by through the floorboards.  No heater, which was a problem where I was at the time.  It was under powered, cold, noisy, and generally a POS, but for some reason I loved that car,  Emoticonaid $500 for it.  Sold it for $500 a year and a half later. 4951

One day I got cuffed and brought into the police station because the reverse lights were out. Officer said if he saw me driving it again he would arrest me. True to his word, week later he nabbed me. They brought me in and said if I came back with $25 they would forgive me. I thought that was BS, probably just messing with me and wanted to buy them lunch. Never went back and never heard anything else about it. 4951

My first car was a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. I did not know how to drive a standard so I went through a few clutches...I tried to tell my parents but...Still had some good memories with that little thing. I even ran away to Florida in it at 16! LOL my mother tried to tell me she had put me on America's most wanted! Now as a mother I cant imagine what she was going through Emoticon 4951

I was lucky - never had a POS.  First car was 82-ish olds cutlass.  Not terrible, not great.  Second car was chevy s-10 pickup.  Only had about 40,000 on it.  Drove it all through college, for a few years of work commuting, and sold it with 250,000 on it, still going strong.  It developed some rusty spots around the windshield and would get some water inside in the last few months I had it.  Carried six girls and my friend inside the cab from Matamoros back to SPI one night.  Sweet memories. 4951

@ForeCPA90: Ha, we used to have to crawl under the car and turn it on for the winter.  If you got caught in a cold snap you had a chilly ride.

My first car was an '88 nissan sentra - stick shift, no power steering so at least my arms got a good workout while driving it around. It wasn't a bad car other than I think a riding lawn mower had more horsepower than that car. It certainly made merging onto the freeway with Houston traffic interesting though... 4951

1984 Toyota corolla sr5..the driver side window would randomly drop driving down the road and when ever it got stiff changing gears, just add a little brake fluid to wherever it would go and off we went. My car was much cooler than my best friends '78 yellow station wagon 4951

I've mostly bought used cars over the years so some have been good and some not so good. I had a 1974 Ford Courier PU, it was when Ford tried to sell the downsized pickups to compete with Toyota and Datsun. It had the same 4 cylinder as the Mazda, not the rotary one but a straight 4. In college I built a camper out of plywood and camped all over California and Oregon.I varnished the wood, it really was pretty well crafted and had those crank out louvered windows. I took my first wife on our honeymoon along the Pacific coast in it. I think that might have led to our divorce! 4951

My first car was a Yugo. Complete piece of s***. My mom got tired of having to bring me 2 hours to college especially if I couldn't get a ride back to school. The master cylinder went out while I was on campus and I drove up 5 Steps almost into the Math building. I got it fixed but I told my mother to please come get it and to sell it. She drove from my college back to Baton Rouge with a friend. She told me she is never felt more scared in her entire life then driving that crap car. That car was not even one year old and I think we paid 4k for it. I think she gave it away 4951
