Sheriff Adopts Dog Found Chained To House During Texas FloodA dog that was found tied to a house during rising floodwaters in
Texas has been adopted by one of the people who helped rescue her.
The 2-year-old border collie mix, named Archer, was found 30 miles
southwest of Houston by Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls and a TV
news crew from KPRC,
the local NBC affiliate, which was traveling by boat and surveying the
flooded neighborhood. At the time of Archer’s discovery, she was
neck-deep in murky water.

In the rescue video above, which has received over 1.2 million views on Facebook, KPRC reporter Phil Archer, and volunteer Jeff Shimek jump into the water to rescue Archer.
“They chained him to the front of the [expletive] house?” one of the men is heard saying in the rescue video.
Archer was brought to the Houston Humane Society — her tail tucked between her legs — shortly after her rescue.
“By the ring around her neck, you can tell she was chained outside
for some time,” Monica Schmidt, a representative from the Houston Humane
Society told Reuters. After Archer received her clean bill of health and was ready for adoption, Nehls took his family to visit the pooch.
“Archer was super excited to see the man that had helped save her life!” the Houston Humane Society wrote on its Facebook page.
“It was love at first sight for everyone. Archer spent all afternoon
giving kisses to the whole crew! At the end, the family voted
unanimously to adopt Archer and make her part of their pack!!!”
Archer’s original owners have not come forward, but could face animal abandonment charges, according to Reuters.
“This is infuriating,” Nehls wrote on his public Facebook page. “These residents will get a visit from me when they return.”
As for her new family, however, it seems like Archer has hit the bull’s-eye. 4951

I saw that on the news. Very nice story. The family is huge so there's more than plenty of love for their new furry family member. 4951

Maybe I've just been lucky with my dogs, but I can't imagine having a dog that is so bad that I would feel the need to keep it chained up outside all the time. I'm glad there was a happy ending for this pooch! 4951

Great story & I love happy endings . Anyone that would leave a pet to die a certain death should never be able to have any pets ever again , plus a stiff fine & jail term. Kudos to the adoptive family for loving & caring for a poor innocent dog . 4951

Happy beginnings for all.
I know he was pi$$ed off when he first saw the dog. Reality is people own pets and when told mandatory evacuation but you can't bring your pets most people put themselves in danger and stay with their animals.
That is something that needs to be phased in. People need a safe place for themselves and their animals.
We are outraged that someone can do that to their dog but no outrage over the horses on the porch where the owner dropped food from a helicopter. The cows trying to swim to safety.
People were warned floods were coming. No excuse to leave animals stranded like that. Where are the charges on them? Will they get a bill for the rescue? 4951
