Did anyone else have two people come to your door yesterday trying to get money for an organization called "Changing Lives"? They were really nice people and I gave them some money but after they left I tried to look it up online and couldn't find anything. So now Im wondering if it was just a scam.  4951

@JMatthews: It's always a scam.  You are paying for very little to zero return on any of those door to door things.  I'm just saying.

I'm not trying to rude or snarky but why would you give to anyone who showed up at your door? That's insane!  Did you think you would be rude or offend the scammer?  They are the rude one.... say put it in writing and send it to me and close the door in their face. We won't even get into why you opened the door in the first place. That's just dangerous. 4951

The scams are literally everywhere and the scammers play a good game, are well rehearsed and can get to you if you let them.

That's why I try so hard to flush out the truth or call out scams when they come here. I get criticized for being a cold, hard, b1tch when it comes to digging for the truth, but most of the time, my instincts are correct. I don't do it to intentionally be mean to people. I do it in an attempt to get to the real bottom line and save some fellow KDC'ers, who might be thinking with their hearts, from being ripped off or taken advantage of in their overly generous state of mind.

Most times I get bashed and shamed before sunlight is shone on the scam, but I have a thick skin and it's a small price to pay.

Sorry, @JMatthews, I wish I could have been there. I would have smelled it coming and run them off. I hope you aren't out a lot of $$$. 4951

I didn't give them much so its not a big deal I just thought I would research a little more and warn others in case it was a scam. They were claiming to be with an organization that helps people that have had a hard start in life and get them prepared for the workforce. So going door to door was part of their training. I usually never open the door for people at all but I was just outside and my neighbor had been talking to them for a while, she also gave them money.  It wasn't like anything that they were selling and I expected something in return, it was just a donation really.  4951

Door to door, I only deal with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts or neighborhood kids I know. It just makes it a whole lot easier.

I even gave the census guy a hard time because, at the time, our neighbors (with questionable immigration status) refused to answer the door. He wanted to question me instead of the census dodgers. I told him I was NOT answering anything on behalf of them, and if their lack of legal status made them afraid to answer their their, that was between him and them. Fool tried to argue with me and guilt me into answering on ther behalf. Fool walked away smarting from a verbal annihilation. 4951

Same people who say they're reformed meth users who've found Jesus and collecting to help women & children in need? That was a sales pitch I heard yesterday outside of Moe's. 4951

There is a band of thugs who regularly come around Kings Mill trying to sell imaginary magazine subscriptions to "help the kids" and they are nothing but petty criminals. They wear white shirts and carry clip boards in an attempt to look more professional, but when I declined to pay 40 bucks for a magazine that they couldn't name and that they said "most people don't really order the magazine, they just donate", the very professional young man who only wants to help the kids sliced open my water hose right after I shut my door. Now when I see them, I call the cops. It's not legal for them to be out here shaking down the residents. I choose my charities. They don't choose me.  Any time I catch a whiff of these creeps in my neighborhood, I'm calling the cops and I'd suggest you do too. 4951

@donnatella: They can say what they want but there is always a person like you needed with a thought process like that. I see many people on here are very giving and understanding so its nice for you to step in and say wait a minute....Opens up the eyes of the naive.

you do know that in the deed restrictions in the bylaws of HOA that they are not allowed to do door-to-door solicitoring- so you can always just tell him you're going to call the Constable because they are it breaking the rules of the subdivision and the constables will have them removed

Majority of the time it's just a scam like stated above Only Girl Scouts Boy Scouts on neighborhood kids

Plus I sleep during the day and work nights so they just **** me off when they wake me up 4951
